摘要： An electrically-powered, aerosol-generating smoking article (10) is provided, comprising an electrical power source in the form of a battery (36) within a tubular outer housing having a mouth-end (15) and an end distal (13) to the mouth-end, at least one electrical resistance heater (70, 72) powered by said electrical power source, wherein at least a portion of the resistance heating element is elongated and extending downstream toward the mouth-end of the outer housing, the elongated portion of the resistance heating element positioned proximal to the center of the outer housing, a puff-actuated controller within the tubular outer housing and adapted for regulating current flow through the electrical resistance heater during draw, the controller comprising a sensor (60) adapted for sensing draw on the smoking article by a user, and a cigarette (85) removably engaged with the mouth-end of the tubular outer housing and comprising a tobacco segment circumscribed by a wrapping material (160) and comprising a tobacco material (89) and an aerosol-forming material, wherein the elongated portion of the resistance heating element extends into the tobacco segment when the cigarette-type device is engaged with the mouth-end of the outer housing, such that during draw, aerosol-forming material can be volatilized to produce a visible mainstream aerosol incorporating tobacco components or tobacco-derived components that can be drawn into the mouth of the user of the smoking article.

摘要： The invention provides a method of increasing the mesopore volume of a porous activated carbon, comprising coating a porous activated carbon with a metal oxide or metal oxide precursor to form a treated activated carbon; and calcining the treated activated carbon, in a dry atmosphere, for a time and at a temperature sufficient to increase the mesopore volume of the treated activated carbon. The invention also provides an activated carbon having a total mesopore volume of at least about 0.10 cc/g and less than about 0.25 cc/g, and a percentage of mesopore volume per total pore volume of at least about 15% and less than about 35%. Activated carbon modified according to the invention, cigarette filters incorporating such activated carbon, and smoking articles made with such filters are included in the invention.

摘要： A smoking article is provided, comprising a source of electrical power, a controller mechanism including a sensor (60) that is capable of selectively powering certain components of the article at least during periods of draw, and at least one heating (70, 72) device for forming a thermally generated aerosol that incorporates components of tobacco, wherein a cartridge (85) containing tobacco is positioned with the smoking article, wherein the smoking article further includes an aerosol-generating material contained within a container in liquid form or soaked within absorbent fibrous or sponge-like materials, wherein the sensor (60) is a sensing mechanism wherein the at least one heating device is an electrical resistance heating element located downstream from the sensing mechanism and in close proximity to an absorbent wicking material such that aerosol-generating material can be wicked or otherwise transferred so as to contact the resistance heating element or contact an area in close proximity to the resistance heating element.
