    • A chuck assembly (16) for use with a power driver (10) having a forward end (34), a housing (12), a gearbox (26), and a rotating spindle (30) extending therefrom includes a separate interface plate (24). The interface plate (24) is received by and is rotationally fixed to the forward end (34) and includes a forward face (125) defining a center opening (66) and a forward-facing rotational stop (62, 64). The spindle (30) extends through the center opening (66) to receive a chuck. The chuck includes a body (110) having a nose (122) and a tail (124), the tail (124) being configured to rotate with the spindle (30), and the nose (122) including an axial bore (126). Chuck jaws (118) are received by the body (110) and movable toward and away from the chuck axis (31). A bracket (70) is disposed about the body (110) and extends rearward of the tail (124). The bracket (70) defines a rearward surface (71) engaging the stop (62, 64) to rotationally fix the bracket (70) to the interface plate (24).

    • Chuck (20) for use with a driver having a rotatable shaft, including a body (26) and jaws (28) slidably positioned in angled passageways (30) formed in the body (26). The chuck (20) further includes a nut (60) rotatably mounted relative to the body (26) and in engagement with threads (62) on the jaws (60). A generally cylindrical sleeve member (22) is disposed in driving engagement with the nut (60) and overlying the nose section (23) of the body (26) so that when the sleeve member (22) is rotated with respect to the body (26), the jaws (28) will be moved thereby to grip the shank of a tool. A pawl member (80) is biased to engage the sleeve member (22) and is disposed selectively rotatably with respect to the body (26). When the nut (60) is tightened, the pawl member (80) can be disposed to become nonrotatable with respect to the body (26) and restrains the nut (60) from loosening during vibration of the chuck (20) in use.

    • A tool driver includes a housing (30) and a rotatable drive shaft (28). A chuck (10) for holding the tool includes a generally cylindrical body (12) having a nose section (80) and a tail section (82). Jaws (16) are slidably positioned in angularly disposed passageways (42) in the body (12). Each jaw (16) has a jaw face (34) and threads (36) formed thereon. A nut (18) is in operative communication with the drive shaft (28) so that the drive shaft (28) rotationally drives the nut (18). The nut (18) engages the jaw threads (36) so that rotation of the nut (18) moves the jaws (16) axially within the passageways (42). A locking mechanism (20, 48) is mounted to at least one of the housing (30) and the body (12) and is selectively actuatable to first and second operative positions. In the first position, the locking mechanism (20, 48) rotationally locks the housing (30) and the body (12) with respect to each other. In the second, it permits relative rotation between the body (12) and the housing (30).
