Command station (9) has a biometric analyser unit (10) and a authorizing means (11). The blasting apparatuses have enhanced security features by including biometric analysis of specific biological features (13) of an authorized blast operator to generate a known biometric signature. The biometric signature can be derived from a fingerprint scan; a recognition scan of a hand, a foot, an iris or a retina; a skin spectroscopy analysis; a finger vein pattern analysis; a voice recognition analysis; or a DNA fingerprint analysis. This biometric signature is used to determine whether a test biometric signature of a blast operator is derived from an authorized person. Additional security features of the blasting apparatuses, and corresponding methods of blasting employing the blasting apparatuses, are also disclosed.

摘要： In the method for assigning a delay time to an electronic delay detonator. The detonator includes a data register (24) into which a desired delay time value, supplied by a controller, is written. Subsequently, over a predetermined time period (t) the contents of the data register (24) is repetitively added to a counter register (26) in which the contents is accumulated. After a division of the counter register contents through the calibration time, the contents of the coutner register (26) is subsequently counted down using the same oscillator (18) which has controlled the accumulation process. The invention allows the delay time value supplied by the controller to be exactly adhered with, using an oscillator (18) of low accuracy and without feedback from the detonator (12) to the controller.

摘要： The invention is for an apparatus and a method for controlling a plurality of detonators. It involves the use of one or more authorization keys (23) each associated with a blasting machine (20). The authorization keys (23) are transferable from the blasting machine(s) (20) to a central command station (22), each authorisation key (23) storing a data package (25) comprising a randomly generated access code generated by its corresponding blasting (machine20). Transfer of the one or more authorization keys (23) to a central command station (22) allows the data packages (25) (and associated randomly generated access codes) to be transmitted by the central command station (22) for receipt by the blasting machines (20). If the access codes generated and received by any one blasting machine (20) correspond, then the blasting machine (20) is rendered active for blasting operations, and the relay of command signals (24) to one or more associated detonators. Preferably, the invention further includes the use of a master key for insertion into the central command station (22), wherein the master key stores detonator firing codes, and optionally user identification information.

摘要： We have now found that associative thickeners may be used in emulsions for use in explosive compositions, which associative thickeners provide for rapid and reversible changes in emulsion viscosity. Associative thickeners provide explosives emulsions having the desirable characteristics of (1) significant reduction in viscosity during pumping and (2) reestablishment of relatively high viscosity when pumping is terminated without damage to the emulsion components. It is believed that the associative thickener provides a network of physical linkages throughout the emulsion which network can be reversibly broken down.
