    • A heat exchanger bypass apparatus comprising a bypass inlet (34) and a bypass outlet (36) for fluid communication with the air supply inlet (8) and the air supply outlet (18) of a ventilation unit (1) respectively. A bypass air channel (48) extends between the bypass inlet (34) and bypass outlet (36). An elongate rotatable damper (54) is located within the bypass air channel. The damper (54) is arranged to rotate about its longitudinal axis between and open and closed position in which it opens and closes the bypass air channel (48) respectively. Sealing ridges (66) are located on opposing sides of the bypass air channel (48). The ridges (66) and the rotatable damper (54) are arranged such the side edges of the damper (54) engage and sealingly abuts the sealing ridges (66) when in the closed position to close and seal the bypass air channel (48).

    • A heat exchanger device (1) for use in a ventilation unit is provided with a bypass function. The heat exchanger device (1) includes a first fluid flow path array comprising a plurality of fluid channels having a first fluid inlet side to the heat exchanger device (1) and first fluid outlet side from the heat exchanger device (1). The heat exchanger device (1) also includes a second fluid flow path array comprising a plurality of fluid channels through the heat exchanger device (1) having a second fluid inlet side to the heat exchanger device (1) and a second fluid outlet side from the heat exchanger device (1), the first and second fluid pathway arrays being in heat exchange contact, via intervening heat exchange surfaces. In a first mode of operation means (7,8) is provided for selectively zoning the respective fluid channel arrays such that for a given zone flow is permitted in one of the arrays whilst being inhibited in the other. As a result of zoning, the hot and cold air streams are prevented from passing though adjacent channels of the heat exchanger (1) in the respective zones, and thus little or no transfer of heat can occur and the bypass function is provided.

    • An extract fan assembly (10) comprises a fan and fan housing (12). The fan housing (12) comprises a plurality of walls defining an enclosure for containing the fan having an inlet opening (14) at one end. A cover plate (18) is positioned to cover the inlet opening (14) and fixed relative to the housing (12) in a spaced location from the inlet opening (14). A first air inlet is defined by the space between the cover plate and the housing. A first airflow pathway extends between the first air inlet and the fan housing (12) via the inlet opening (14). The fan assembly (10) includes a second auxiliary inlet (28) and a second airflow pathway extending between the second air inlet and the fan housing (12) that allows the spacing between the cover plate (18) and the housing (12) to be reduced while maintaining the same inlet airflow.
