    • The clips (18) of the present invention include two closure members (22, 24) joined by at least two spaced central connecting members (36, 38). The clips (18) are designed such that the at least two central connecting members (36, 38) extend through the inclined PFO tunnel and the two closure members (22, 24) compress the overlapping layers of septal tissue, i.e. septum primum and septum secundum, together to close the PFO tunnel. The clips (18) of the present invention take various forms depending, in part upon the distribution of force required to close a given PFO. Thus, embodiments of the closure members (22, 24) include arcuate peaks (26), loops (46, 48), and prongs (96, 98). In yet other embodiments, the closure members (22, 24) include centering elements (49) for centering the device in the desired delivery location and a tissue scaffold (108).
