摘要： The present invention relates to the discovery, identification and characterization of toxic agents which are lethal to pathogens and methods for targeting such toxic agents to a pathogen or pathogen infected cells in order to treat and/or eradicate the infection. In particular, the present invention relates to toxic agents which target bacteria at different stages of the bacterial life cycle, which are delivered alone or in combination to bacteria or bacteria-infected cells. The invention relates to toxic agents which are lethal to diseased cells and methods for targeting such toxic agents to a diseased cell in order to treat and/or eradicate the disease. The present invention relates to promoter elements which are pathogen-specific or tissue-specific and the use of such promoter elements to achieve pathogen-specific or tissue-specific expression of the toxic agent(s) and/or ribozyme(s) of the present invention. Specifically, the invention relates to the delivery of one or more toxic gene products, antisense RNAs, or ribozymes, or combination thereof. The invention provides a novel system by which multiple pathogenic targets may be simultaneously targeted to cause the death of a pathogen, or cell infected with a pathogen. Further, the invention has important implications in the eradication of drug-resistant bacterium and bacterial pathogens. The invention provides a novel system by which multiple targets may be simultaneously targeted to cause the death of a diseased cell. The invention has important implications in the eradication of drug-resistant pathogens (such as antibiotic resistant bacteria) and drug-resistant diseased cells (such as drug-resistant cancer cells).

摘要： The invention provides tissue-specific and target RNA-specific ribozymes. These ribozymes can be used to destroy target-specific neoplasms and to treat viral infections, among other uses. The ribozymes of the present invention comprise a 5' autocatalytically cleaving ribozyme sequence, a catalytic ribozyme comprising a target RNA-specific binding site and a 3' autocatalytically cleaving ribozyme. The invention also provides nucleic acids which encode the ribozymes of the invention. These nucleic acids can be used to express the ribozymes of the invention at the selected site. Methods of treating disease by administering the ribozymes are provided.

摘要： The present invention concerns a synthetic construct comprising a linear core chain having two or more side chains pending directly from different points on the linear core chain. Each of the side chains comprises an epitopic site of an antigen or a peptide. The synthetic constructs are monomeric units that can be linked together or polymerized to form a polymer. In this embodiment the epitopic sites of the side chains may be the same or different. The linear core chain may be a linear sequence of amino acids having two or more of the same peptide pending directly from different points on the linear sequence. Another aspect of the present invention concerns a support having one or more of the above synthetic constructs or polymers coupled thereto. Another embodiment of the present invention is directed to antibodies raised against the above synthetic constructs or polymers. The antibodies can be purified using the above mentioned supports. Another aspect of the present invention is a vaccine comprising the above synthetic construct. The present invention also includes methods for synthesizing the above constructs and polymers.

摘要： An intravascular flow modifier (IFM) for use in a vessel has an outer layer formed of a strand configured as a longitudinally oriented coil of adjacent helical loops extending between a first end and a second end of the outer layer. The outer layer is secured in the vessel by at least some of the helical loops pressing against a portion of the interior surface of the vessel. The IFM also has an inner layer formed of a strand configured as a longitudinally oriented coil of adjacent helical loops extending between a first end and a second end of the inner layer. At least a portion of the outer layer surrounds at least a portion of the inner layer so that at least some of the loops of the outer layer overlap and contact at least some of the loops of the inner layer. An assembly and method for deploying are also disclosed.

A radiopaque mask ribbon (130) is disposed around the rollers (120) and the film sheet (112) having an elongated aperture (132) transparent to x-rays passing therethrough. The aperture (132) is perpendicular to the length of ribbon (130). X-rays expose the film sheet (122) through aperture (132) as it moves in the rotating direction of the rollers (120).
