    • Techniques are provided aimed at improving the flexibility and reducing the area and power consumption of digital baseband integrated circuits by using stream data processor (210) based modem architecture. Semiconductor companies offering baseband ICs for handsets, face the challenges of improving die size efficiency, power efficiency, performance, time to market, and coping with evolving standards. Software defined radio based implementations offer a fast time to market. Dedicated hardware designs give the best die size and power efficiency. To combine the advantages of dedicated hardware with the advantages of conventional software defined radio solutions the stream data processor (210) is partitioned into a stream processor unit (410), which implements processing functions in dedicated hardware and is hence die size and power efficient, and a flexible stream control unit (430) which may be software defined to minimize the time to market of the product.

    • Techniques are provided for reducing interference in a wireless network (100). A user equipment device (120) in a first wireless coverage area (130) of a wireless network using a time division duplex transmission scheme to designate a maximum timing advance value for uplink transmissions based on potential interference between uplink transmissions made by the user equipment device (120) in the first wireless coverage area (130) or at least one other user equipment device in the first wireless coverage area, and downlink transmissions intended for at least one user equipment device in a second wireless coverage area (160) of the wireless network (100). The maximum timing advance value may be based on relative cell radii or other cell properties of the first and second wireless coverage areas. A base station (110) may determine the maximum timing advance and transmit the maximum timing advance to the user equipment device (120).
