摘要： A sleeve-type beverage can carrier (10) with a handle opening (32) in the top panel (14) extending across the entire width of the top panel. The opening further extends into the upper portion of the side panels (12), terminating in an arcuate edge (36). Upon lifting the carrier, the top panel between the edge of the handle opening being grasped and the nearest end panel are caused to bow upwardly by the lifting stresses, thereby distributing the stresses through the top panel and the upper portions of the side panels to prevent tearing.

摘要： A carton (10) contains a flap (68) on the outer top panel (60) and a flap (70) on the inner top panel (64), the free edge (80) of the outer top panel flap (68) overlying the inner top flap (70). When a user presses down on the outer top panel flap (68), it pivots out of the way to allow the user's fingers to fold the inner top panel flap (70) under the top panel structure to provide a handle for lifting the carton (10). When the fingers are withdrawn, the outer top panel flap (68) is biased upwardly by its arcuate foldable connection to close the handle opening. If the inner top panel flap (70) is contacted by the outer top panel flap (68) as it pivots upwardly, the outer top panel flap (70) pushes the inner top panel flap (70) up to a substantially closed position. Score lines (72, 76) extending from the ends of the foldable connections of the inner and outer top panel flaps (68, 70) to the corners of the carton (10) distribute the lifting stresses to side panels (14, 22) of the carton (10).

摘要： A machine for feeding beverage cans (C) to open-ended carrier sleeves (S) of varying capacities. When loading relatively small carrier sleeves, inboard conveyors (48) and associated metering screws (60, 62) feed groups of cans to a flight bar conveyor (34, 36, 38) which moves the groups through the open ends of the carrier sleeves. When loading relatively large carrier sleeves (S'), outboard conveyors (92) and associated metering screws (94) are also operated and the inboard screws are replaced with larger screws (62', 64') able to separate cans into larger groups. Each conveyor comprises a longer upstream conveyor (48) and a shorter downstream conveyor (76) spaced a short distance therefrom to allow the flight bars to travel through the space between the conveyors. In another embodiment a support plate (100) is used instead of the downstream conveyor. Here the gap between the conveyor and the plate is automatically closed by a shuttle mechanism (110) to provide a continuous support surface for the cans as they are pushed toward the carrier sleeves.
