    • The invention relates to a process for producing a chemical reagent that is soluble in neutral waters, acid waters and in process solutions, in order to aid and improve the oxidation and leaching of cooper sulfides. The process comprises the following steps: diverting part of an aqueous current form a process solution; concentrating the iron (II) from said current, oxidizing same to form a ferrous nitrate solution having high redox potential, and storing the latter to measure out the amount needed for the leaching process. The system for preparing the reagent includes the following; concentrating an aqueous solution, oxidizing same and transforming the ferrous sulfate into ferrous nitrate, containing the concentrated ferrous nitrate, distributing and measuring out the reagent in the current fed to the leaching pond. The reagent, wich includes ferrous nitrate, is incorporated in the irrigation of copper sulfide leaching basins.
