    • The system is based on the use of a portable and wireless device placed on the person's body, which incorporates an biaxial accelerometer able to detect acceleration values along the X and Y axis, a microprocessor that determines when a fall has occurred, a GSM/GPRS/UMTS type mobile telephony communications module for sending an alarm message to an external receiver, a GPS-type global positioning and location module for indicating the position of the person, an alarm activation and cancellation button and a battery. The fall detection methodology is based on a continuous measurement of the acceleration along a vertical axis Y and a horizontal axis X that allows establishing a time window prior to the instantaneous event detected, used as a comparative reference to calculate an average value of the acceleration in this period and, based on this average value determining maximum and differential acceleration limits to which are compared at all times the instantaneous acceleration values, establishing a direct detection that determines an unequivocal existence of a fall when the instantaneous acceleration exceeds one of the maximum limits and a differential detection that determines a possible fall when the instantaneous acceleration exceeds one of the differential limits, without reaching the maximum limits.
