摘要： The invention includes a composition to coat a substrate comprising: an asphalt material; a polymer that is not a polyol; and a polyol. The polyol has a molecular weight of about 1000 to about 5000 and/or the polyol is present in an amount no greater than about 30% by weight of the total composition. Also included are coated articles that comprise a substrate coated with a coating layer, wherein the coating layer is formed from a composition that comprises: an asphalt material, a polymer that is not a polyol; and a polyol. Also included are methods of improving the processability of a asphalt material comprising combining together an asphalt material, a polymer that is not a polyol, and a polyol, wherein the resultant composition exhibits improved processability as compared to an asphalt composition that does not contain a polyol. In the method in some embodiments, the polyol may be present in the resultant composition in an amount of no greater than 30% by weight and/or the polyol may have a molecular weight of about 1000 to about 5000. In some embodiments, the composition of the method does not contain at least one of a plasticizer and a surface active agent.

摘要： Settable gypsum compositions are described herein which include a gypsum slurry, comprising water; and a first additive comprising a vinyl acetate/ethylene copolymer in latex or emulsion form and a second additive which is at least one of (i) a wetting agent and/or a surfactant; (ii) a titanium coupling agent, (iii) a zirconium coupling agent, and (iv) mixtures thereof. The compositions demonstrate improved strength and gypsum core adhesion. Such compositions may also include at least one dispersant and/or a wetting agent and/or a surfactant. Such dispersants may be lignosulfonic acid, naphthalene sulfonic acid, and combinations and salts thereof and the wetting agent and/or surfactant may be N-dodecyl 2- pyrrolidone, ethoxylated alcohol, and combinations thereof. The dispersant and/or wetting agents and/or surfactants can further enhance rheological properties to benefit the enhanced strength gypsum compositions.

摘要： The invention includes a microbe-mitigating architectural barrier that includes a barrier forming material, and at least one biocide. The barrier forming material may be a bitumen product, an elastomeric polymer and combinations thereof. The microbe-mitigating architectural barrier may be formed by applying an emulsion composition directly to an architectural surface, or it may be preformed and adhered or otherwise secured to the architectural surface in the form of a sheet or film. The invention also includes architectural assemblies and/or building envelopes that include the microbe-mitigating barrier. Related methods are encompassed within the scope of the invention. Such methods include a method of preparing an architectural barrier that includes: (a) preparing an emulsion that comprises a barrier forming material chosen from a bitumen product, an elastomeric polymer and combinations thereof, and at least one biocide, (b) applying the emulsion to at least one architectural surface, and (c) drying and/and or curing the emulsion to form a barrier.

Also included herein is a montan wax substitute for use in an aqueous montan-based wax emulsion having paraffinic hydrocarbon, a wax component, water and poly vinyl alcohol wherein the wax component includes the montan wax substitute in place of use of a montan wax in the wax component such that the montan wax substitute is about I part to about 100 percent of the wax component and includes a synthetic olefin wax. An aqueous wax emulsion, comprising water; a paraffinic hydrocarbon; polyvinyl alcohol and a wax component comprising synthetic olefin wax component. The synthetic olefin wax component may be selected from the group consisting of (i) a synthetic normal a-olefin wax; (ii) a synthetic olefin wax of a carbon chain length of about or more carbon atoms, that is modified by oxidizing and/or by refining through distillation or stripping; and (iii) combinations thereof. These emulsions are useful for settable gypsum compositions and water- resistant wallboard. A montan wax substitute may be used in an aqueous emulsion having paraffinic hydrocarbon, a wax component, water and polyvinyl alcohol. The wax component includes the montan wax substitute in place of use of a montan wax in the wax component such that the montan wax substitute is about 1 part to about 100 percent of the wax component and includes a synthetic olefin wax.

Methods of making such emulsions are also provided.
