    • Disclosed herein is a silencer (10) for reducing acoustic energy in a flow of exhaust gas from a combustion power source which prevents rain or snow from entering an exhaust stack without the need for a weather cap or hood. The silencer achieves acoustic energy attenuation and precipitation diversion with a minimal increase in backpressure. The silencer comprises a chamber (20) at least partially defined by a chamber wall (50) in communication with an inlet port (30) for introducing exhaust gas into the chamber and an exhaust port for exiting exhaust gases from the chamber. The inlet port (30) may be in communication with an inlet collar (35) for attachment to an exhaust stack. A housing (60) at least partially surrounds the chamber wall (50) to form at least one cavity (65) between the chamber wall and the housing where acoustic absorbing material is disposed. A deflector (80) is at least partially disposed within the chamber (20) having a gallery portion (85) in communication with the channel (30). The channel is provided for draining the contents of the gallery portion (85) which are diverted from entering the exhaust stack. The deflector (80) may be substantially V-shaped or have a substantial concave shape. For purposes of reducing backpressure, the deflector is substantially centered about a vertical axis of the exhaust port.

    • A releasable coupling assembly [10] for connecting two members is provided that includes a first member [12] having an exterior surface [16] with a receiving portion and a second [12] member having a hose adapter [24] and a sleeve valve [26] positioned within the adapter [24]. The sleeve valve [26] is in slidable communication with the adapter [24] and includes at least one socket aperture [28] that includes a mating ball [30] that contacts at least one longitudinal groove [32] in the adapter [24] that includes a first [34] and expanded [36] radial portion. When the members are secured together, the ball [30] of the sleeve valve [26] is retained in the receiving formation [20] of the first member [12] by the first radial portion [34] of the longitudinal groove [32] of the hose adapter [24]. When the members are pulled apart for disconnection, the sleeve valve [26] initially remains engaged with the first member [12] until the ball [30] comes into contact with the expanded radial portion [36] of the longitudinal groove [32] of the hose adapter [24] and the ball [30] departs the receiving formation [20] of the first member [12], such that the valve [26] is completely or almost completely closed prior to disconnection of the members.

    • A coupling assembly includes a female member having a receiving end with an axially extending passageway and inwardly facing groove extending outwardly from said passageway in a position spaced from the receiving end. A split metal locking ring is positioned in the groove. A male member is sized to be received in said receiving end and includes a rib having a ramp where the ramp in a first embodiment curves outwardly to an apex and in a first alternate embodiment curves outwardly to a flat and in a second alternate embodiment increases in height in a linear fashion until a relatively short distance from the flat where it curves outwardly to meet the flat, the rib also has a shoulder tapering away from the forward end and inwardly toward the axis. Upon insertion of the male member into the female member, the split metal ring is expanded as it rides over the ramp, engages the cylindrical surface and retracts to a smaller diameter approaching its original size to engage the shoulder thereby locking the male member into engagement with the female member. A release sleeve is mounted on the male member and is axially movable relative thereto to push the split locking ring up and off of the tapering shoulder to thereby disengage the male member from the female member.

    • A coupling assembly for connecting two members is provided that includes a first "male" member and a second "female" member. The first member 12, 96 includes a release sleeve (244) moveably mounted thereon having a rigid release portion 208 and a flexible sealing portion 248. The second member 14 is integrated into an apparatus, such as a pump, and includes a duct therethrough for receiving the first member 103. Upon connection of the first and second members, the flexible sealing portion 248 sealingly engages a recessed seat portion of the second member to substantially inhibit the ingression of contaminates into the duct when the first and second members are connected. The foregoing coupling assembly is advantageous because it allows the second member to be formed directly into an apparatus. In other embodiments, the coupling assembly provides an improved release sleeve 244 that releases the male member 12, 96 from both a conventional female member 103 and an integral female member 14.
