    • A circuit protection arrangement for protecting a circuit against damaging signals, such as surges and transients, comprises the combination of a series protection element which becomes open circuit in the event of a damaging signal and a shunt protection element which becomes a low resistance circuit in the event of a damaging signal. The series protection element is a normally-closed switch device 4 which is actuated in response to heat generated in the shunt protection element, e.g. in the form of a gas tube 1, so as to open-circuit the series path and provide a short circuit of the shunt path. The protection arrangements may be applied to both unbalanced lines and balanced lines, such as L1, L2, feeding an input E1, E2 of the equipment to be protected.

    • An objective lens for focusing electron and ion beams onto a target plane 31. The lens has an electrostatic portion and a magnetic portion: the electrostatic portion takes the form of a three element einzel lens having outer electrodes 11,12 commoned by a shell 10 and cover 9 and connected to ground and an inner electrode 15 at a high voltage, said electrode 15 being mounted on shell 10 by an insulator 16. Electrodes 11, 12 shell 10 and cover 9 are all made of ferromagetic material excited by a current carrying coil 13. Electrodes 11, 12 thus double as polepieces for the magnetic portion of the lens. By suitable adjustment of the electric and magnetic field strengths, the ion and electron beams can both be brought to a focus on the target plane 31.

    • A process for the encapsulation of an electrical component (1) provided with at least one movable member (5), such as an overheating protection device, arranged externally of the component. The process comprises the steps of coating the component with a wax like material (2) in a molten state and in a sufficient amount to cover said at least one movable member (5), allowing said wax like material to solidify, incapsulating the wax coated component in an encapsulating material (3) having a solidifying temperature which is lower than the melting point of the wax like material and solidifying the encapsulating material.
