    • An antenna for mounting on the window or the like comprises outer (14) and inner RF transfer members (46), each having an electrically conductive member (17, 58) on its underside for respective engagement with the inside and outside of the window (12). A current-fed radiator (16) is carried by the RF transfer member (14) on the outside of the window, while the inner RF transfer member (46) connects to electrical cable (50) having both a main electrical conductor (52) and a ground conductor (53). In accordance with this invention, counterpoise means comprises a conductor carried by the inner RF transfer member which is adapted for electrical engagement with a ground conductor. Typically, the elongated conductor is of about a quarter wavelength and is a coil (80). The counterpoise means (80) typically extends in a direction which is at least generally in the direction of the current-fed radiator (16).

    • An antenna system for mounting on a glass plate (10) with a radiator (12) extending from one side of the glass plate and with an electrical connector and a cable (21) extending from the opposite side of the glass plate whereby energy is transferred (13, 16) through the glass plate. Coupling means for a cable is provided, defining a receptacle for retaining the coupled end of the coaxial cable at an angle of essentially 15 to 60 degrees to said glass plate in said mounted position. Also, the antenna may define a helical base portion which may be attached to the glass plate on the side opposite to the coupling means. The helical base serves to shorten the antenna, and also so simultaneously serve as an electrical phase cancelling coil. Additionally, improvements are disclosed in the design of field cancelling conductors (18, 20) used.

    • An antenna connector communicates with antenna input/output circuitry of a transmitter/receiver such as a portable telephone. A length of conductive cable is provided with a connector for physical connection to the transmitter/receiver. The same connector is adapted for spaced, electronic connection with the input/output circuitry using at least one of induction and capacitance without a connecting conductor. The other end of the cable is adapted for conductive connection with an antenna. Thus, a non-invasive, removable connection is provided between an antenna and a portable telephone or the like to upgrade the performance of the telephone when needed, for example in an automobile.

    • A cordless antenna (10) is provided for mounting on a motor vehicle's window (12). The cordless antenna (10) has an outside radiator (16) carried by an outer RF transfer member (14) and an inside radiator (24) carried by an inner RF transfer member (20).
