    • The invention pertains to an automatic shut-off refueling nozzle (10) particularly suitable for use with military vehicles employing a nozzle having a liquid level sensor (20,22) operating a flow valve (12), the nozzle includes a lug plate (60) attachable to the inlet (74) of the tank receptacle being filled wherein once attached to the tank inlet (74) the presence of an operator is not required during refueling. A diverger (26) on the nozzle spout (14) improves flow characteristics within the tank inlet (74) to prevent immature release of the nozzle flow valve (12) and the nozzle prevents contamination during refueling and prevents spillage of volatile fuels even though unattended. An embodiment of the invention utilizes a secondary control valve (138) preventing fluid flow until the nozzle has been fully connected to the tank inlet.

    • A fueling nozzle (10) for pressurized fuel systems having a body (12) connectable to a tank inlet. The body includes an axially displaceable valve (112) movable between a closed retracted position and an extended open position. Connection of the body to the tank inlet occurs upon rotation of the connection sleeve (68) and positioning of the valve is achieved by a rotatable cam sleeve (36) having a cam slot (46) in which a valve-mounted follower (142) is located. An interlock (82) senses mounting of the body on the tank inlet permitting rotation of the connection sleeve in a locking direction and upon the connection sleeve being fully rotated to a locked condition a second interlock (98) permits rotation of the cam sleeve and valve movement from the closed to the open position. The nozzle is characterized by reduced flow resistance characteristics and safe operation.
