    • In order to provide a gun head of stud welder (weld gun) which maintains a proper lifting height and at the same time prevents defective welding resulting from spatter, a gun head (11) has a collet (12) to hold, place and lift a stud, and is attached movably along a gun slide (13) fixed to the body of a weld gun. It welds the stud to a workpiece (5) by lifting the stud held by the collet (12) to a predetermined height from the workpiece and after producing an arc discharge across the stud and the workpiece, presses the stud onto a portion of the workpiece and of the stud melted by the arc discharge. The gun head (11) is provided with transition means to move the entire gun head along the gun slide 13 toward the workpiece over a distance equal to the maximum stroke (14) so as to bring the weld stud into surface-contact with the workpiece and an electric current established therebetween, and lifting means to lift the collet to the predetermined height while the moved gun head is held in that position.

    • A device (10) for sucking up material removed by the bit of a portable drill is made in the form of a casing provided with means (16) for securing it to the drill and having at least one portion constituting a handle (11) to enable it to be gripped in one hand by the operator. The device (10) comprises a suction head (26) fitted slidingly on the casing to enable it to be kept close to the point of penetration into the surface of a body to be drilled by the bit fitted on the drill. Disposed inside the casing (19) of the device are a fan (13) with intake connected to said head (26) through a connecting duct (23,24) and with outlet blowing into a container (34), supported by the casing, for collecting the aspirated material, an electric motor (14) to actuate the fan (13), electric batteries (15) to supply power to the motor (14) through an operating switch (35). The casing of the drill alternatively comprises an electric socket designed to receive a corresponding plug mounted on the vacuum device (10) so as to supply power to the fan motor (14) by taking it from the power supply of the drill.

    • In an electrically powered combination screwdriver/drill (10), opposing halves (60, 62) of a ratchet type torque transmitting clutch (58) are normally biased axially apart by a compression spring (70). The output half (62) of the clutch is fixed on the output spindle (56) of the tool which is free to move axially within limits. For screwdriving operation, operator bias of the tool against the workpiece overcomes the spring, retracting the output spindle and bringing the clutch halves into engagement. An adjustable stop (78) in the nose of the tool limits axially rearward movement of the output spindle and hence depth of engagement of the clutch teeth (60, 62), thus providing a variable limit on torque transmitted. For the drilling mode, the rearward half of the clutch is cammed forward so that the clutch is firmly engaged for continuous rotation of the output spindle without specific torque limitation. An operator may switch from drilling mode to screwdriving mode and back without disturbing the torque limit adjustment of the screwdriving mode.

    • A dust bowl (54) of a hand-held vacuum cleaner (42) is attached to a power unit (44) using top (72) and bottom (74) latches which are actuated by pushing a single actuator button (84). A tab (76) extends from the bottom of the dust bowl (54) to overlap a forward edge (78) of the forward support member (52) to provide further stability to the fit.

    • An electrical storage cell, having a headed current collector pin (7) protruding through a sealing grommet (12) at one end of the cell, has a short threaded portion (18) in the stem (8) of the collector pin adjacent the head (9) which increases the bite on the grommet of the stem of the collector pin passing through said grommet. The thread may be interrupted. The sealing of the stem of the collector pin in the grommet may be enhanced by the provision of a small, flexible upstand (20) formed in the grommet which is distorted and deflected inwardly on assembly to form an additional seal against the stem. The axial force required to remove a collector pin is greatly increased. A weak point may be provided so that the stem fractures before it can be extracted, the major proportion of the stem being left in the cell when the head is thus torn from the collector pin; the broken stem left in the cell provides a significant seal against leakage of the contents of the cell.
