摘要： A self-service device in the form of a terminal (10) has a display screen (12) on which a sprite (70) such as a human character is caused to appear. In response to operation by a user of a joystick or joypad (30), the sprite moves in an animated manner, for example, appears to walk, across the display screen (12). The user can cause the sprite (70) to investigate a location. Also the sprite (70) can, in response to operation of a control key (40), effect a selected self-service operation, such as dispensing cash in an automated teller machine, for example. The use of an animated sprite (70), movable and operable under the control of a user, provides a more user-friendly interface than known arrangements such as key-controlled menu-driven displays. In another embodiment the self-service device includes a home entertainment console (402) provided with an application cartridge (432) containing software for a self-service transaction controllable by an animated sprite (70).

摘要： A system for performing intelligent analysis, segmentation and partition of a database based upon attributes associated with the data in the database are provided. A report may be generated which allows a user to make decisions, without requiring the user to understand or interpret data itself. A database computer includes a database containing the data. The data includes a collection of information about an enterprise of the user. A server computer is coupled to the database computer and executes a database management program. A client computer is coupled to the server and executes an application program. The application program allows a user to define predetermined data types, to define relationships between the data types, to define parameters for the report, to define a method of analysis for the report, and to create the report. The report summarizes the data in terms of the data types, the data relationships and the method of analysis.

摘要： The present invention relates to an apparatus for detecting the presence of a record medium (31) in a feed path (22) and for sensing the speed of the record medium (31) as it passes along the feed path (22). The invention includes roller means (28) moveable between a first position when the record medium (31) is not present in the feed path (22) and a second position when the record medium (31) is passing along the feed path(22). The roller means (28) are arranged to be rotated by virtue of engagement with the record medium (31) when in the second position. Sensing means (24) operative to provide an indication of the absence of the record medium (31) when the roller means (28) is in the first position are also provided along with pulse generating means (40,45) arranged to generate a series of pulses in response to rotation of the roller means (28). The invention further includes an electronic control means (48) responsive to the pulses generated by the pulse generating means (40,45) and arranged to make a determination of the speed of the record medium (31) as it passes along the feed path (22).

摘要： The invention provides for a call centre (109) including a PBX/ACD (108) and a CTI server (142) for routing both voice and video calls to a single group of agents (120, 122, 124, 172, 174) in which a modem call from an end-point terminal (100, 101, 102) is used to initiate and prepare a video call. Upon receiving an inbound voice or a modem call, the PBX/ACD (108) passes ANI and DNIS to the CTI server (142) and in response to the inbound voice or video call the CTI server (142) selects a group of agents capable of handling the inbound call, and sends routing information to the PBX/ACD (108) so that the ACD can route the inbound call to the selected group of agents. Before an inbound call is routed to an agent, the CTI server (142) generates a flag to indicate the nature of the inbound call. If the flag indicates a video call initiated by a modem call, a modem (152) at the agent's side will respond to the modem call from the end-point terminal (102), and a separate ISDN call is then made to establish a video connection. If the flag indicates a voice call, a telephone set (118) at the agents side will simply ring.

摘要： An ATM reassembly controller is disclosed that optimizes the utilization of host memory space and hardware resources such as I/O bus bandwidth, host memory bandwidth, memory system bandwidth and CPU resources. The system combines, whenever possible, the PDU status, PDU data and pointers to the host memory data buffers into a large burst write to the status queue. In addition, multiple status bundles are packed into a host memory buffer for efficient use of memory. An additional benefit of combining and packing information is that CPU resources are conserved by having combined the information the CPU must access into to a contiguous memory area.

摘要： A card alignment mechanism for an ICC card (30) has first and second arms (12,14) biased towards each other about the same pivot point (16) by a spring (24). One arm (12) carries a card read head (18), the other arm (14) carries a card stop lip (20). A solenoid (28) rotates the arms about the pivot point (16); the card stop lip (20) on the second arm (14) contacts the card (30), and the first arm (12) continues to rotate until the spring (24) is fully compressed, when the card read head (18) is correctly positioned with respect to the card. When the mechanism is incorporated in an ATM, the arms (12,14) can be retracted to their rest position, and the card (30) moved past the mechanism to a card capture bin (45) without restriction.
