    • In a hydraulically operated continuously variable transmission a hydraulic motor (M) and a hydraulic pump (P) are interconnected by a closed hydraulic circuit (C). A lubricating chamber is defined around the sliding surfaces of the swash plate and the plungers of at least one of the hydraulic pump and the hydraulic motor. A shuttle valve (152) has two input ports (153,154) connected to respective oil passages (150,151), the shuttle valve being shiftable to connect one of the oil passages which is of lower oil pressure to the output port of the shuttle valve when the differential pressure between the oil passages is relatively large. A first relief valve (156) is opened to communicate the output port (155) to the lubricating chamber when the oil pressure in the output port exceeds a first pressure level. A second relief valve (160) connected between the first relief valve and the lubricating chamber is opened when the oil pressure between the first relief valve and the lubricating chamber exceeds a second pressure level lower than the first pressure level.

    • A container for loosely housing dual-in-line components 4 comprises an elongate tubular member 1. The tubular member is substantially U-shaped in cross-section and includes a hollow central portion 2 for receiving the body of the components, and flanking portions 3 for receiving the legs 5 of the components. The tubular member is so shaped that the components can only touch the tubular member in certain predetermined locations 8, 9, 10, and to protect the components from static discharges on contacting the container, only these locations need be made conductive, the remainder of the container being of transparent plastic.
      In one embodiment the container may be provided with conducting ribs (13, Figure 6) on the outside so that when two such containers come into contact it is not possible for two non-conducting parts to come into contact so generating static.

    • An indexing mechanism for use in a garment pressing machine includes a support frame (3), a guide rail (12) secured to the frame, a carriage (20) supported by the guide rail for linear movement between dressing and pressing positions, and a fluid actuator (52) for moving the carriage. The carriage carries a pressing buck or mannequin. The indexing mechanism includes an indexing bar (60) having one end (64) pivotally attached to the carriage for linear movement therewith and a second end (62a) slidably and pivotally mounted within a guide (74,78) attached to the support frame. The actuator is connected between the support frame and a central portion of the indexing bar. Extension and retraction of the fluid cylinder causes the indexing bar to pivot and slide about one end within the guide and to drive the carriage between its dressing and pressing positions at its other end. The other end of the guide bar attached to the carriage moves a greater distance than the actuator extension motion due to the motion amplification effect of the indexing bar.
