    • The process comprises the construction of a landfill using municipal solid waste (MSW), bio-dried to a humidity content below 20% via a process of aerobic digestion and compressed into bales (BIOCUBES), and subsequent activation of the landfill by feeding water and recycling percolate so as to reach humidity contents of around 30-60% and trigger a process of anaerobic digestion with the production of biogas (40-50% methane).
      This biogas can be used for example in internal combustion engines equipped with an alternator for the production of electrical energy.
      The plant comprises a) a landfill built by stacking the BIOCUBES of material, bio-dried and rendered inert, into piles on an impermeable containing sheet (T) and covering the top of said piles with a layer of clay (S) with low permeability to gases and to liquids, b) a system of pipes (C2) pre-inserted near the impermeable sheet (T) for collection of the percolate and aspiration of the biogas produced, c) a system of pipes (C1) placed below the covering layer of clay (S) or inserted through said layer of clay for feeding the wetting water into the landfill, d) a system for the collection and treatment of the percolate to be recycled in the pipes for distribution of the wetting water, e) a system of aspiration of the biogas to be sent for use.
      This use can be achieved by means of an internal combustion engine connected to an alternator for the production of electrical energy.

    • Method of treating sediment spread over large areas (1) situated below sea level in the presence of an aquifer (7) that develops above a substantially impermeable stratum (8), which said method comprises the following steps: (a) preparation in said areas of a network of drainage channels (3, 5, 5', 5", ...) and irrigation channels (2, 4, 4',4", ...) designed to remove part of the water from a surface layer or reclamation layer (11), (b) selection of a plant species (12) which is resistant to salinity and able to vaporise considerable amounts of water and absorb the pollutants present in the soil, (c) sowing and cultivation in the area of a plant species (12) so that its roots form a close-knit web in the soil, (d) first cutting and harvesting of the plant species with conventional agricultural machinery, (e) deposit of a layer of sediment (13), which may be weakly polluted, on the cultivated area, (f) enhancement of the vegetative development of plant species (12) using extensive cultivation techniques, in order to purify the sediment and renaturalise the area, (g) subsequent cutting and periodic harvesting of plant species (12), (h) control of the hydraulic potential of the drainage and irrigation channels so as to produce a substantially upward flow of water in reclamation layer (11).

    • A description is given of a method for the use of waste, particularly municipal solid waste, in a thermoelectric power plant (100) in which the primary energy is supplied by the combustion of fossil fuels with the supply of comburent air, wherein waste is combusted in a combustion reactor (1') with appropriately controlled air flow rate, cooling and purification of the flue gases, mixing of said purified flue gases with the comburent air used in said plant, and wherein pressurised steam is produced by said reactor for waste combustion and said pressurised steam is sent directly to the cylindrical body (124) of the boiler (101) of said power plant (100), with resulting reduction in recycling of the condensates from the turbine to the boiler.
      A plant for implementing this method is also described.
