    • The present invention provides an apparatus and method for a shaping sheet including a support frame and a shaping rail supported on the frame. The shaping rail has a sheet shaping surface that conforms in elevation and outline to a final desired shape of a marginal edge of a glass sheet to be shaped. An auxiliary rail having a sheet shaping surface which generally corresponds to a preliminary shape of a selected marginal edge portion of the sheet is positioned along a section of the shaping rail having a sheet shaping surface portion which generally corresponds to the final desired shape of the selected marginal edge portion of the sheet. The auxiliary rail is mounted for movement relative to the shaping rail section from a first position, wherein portions of the sheet shaping surface of the auxiliary rail are above the sheet shaping surface portion of the shaping rail section, and a second position wherein the sheet shaping surface of the auxiliary rail is positioned below the sheet shaping surface portion of the shaping rail section. When the auxiliary rail is in its first position, it is capable of supporting the selected marginal edge portion of the sheet above the shaping rail section and preliminarily shaping the sheet. When the auxiliary rail is in its second position, the sheet shaping surface portion of the shaping rail section is capable of supporting and shaping the selected marginal edge portion of the sheet to the final desired shape.

    • A stable one package etch-resistant film-forming composition is disclosed. The composition includes a polyepoxide component having an epoxy equivalent weight on resin solids of less than about 600. The composition further includes a polyacid curing agent having an average acid functionality of greater than 2. The composition is substantially free of basic esterification catalyst, has a cured softening point of greater than about 20 °C, and is stable for use as a single-component composition. Also disclosed is a process for applying a color-plus-clear composite coating to a substrate which includes applying an acid-catalyzed thermosetting film-forming composition to a substrate to form a basecoat. The process also comprises applying a stable etch-resistant film-forming composition to the basecoat which includes a polyepoxide and a polyacid curing agent as described above, wherein the topcoat is substantially free of basic esterification catalyst, has a cured softening point of greater than about 20 °C. The composition and process are useful in original equipment finishing of automobiles and trucks.

    • A printing medium which may be ink jet printed to provide images of improved quality comprises a substrate having at least one surface, and a substantially nonporous coating on the surface wherein the coating comprises transparent, colorless alumina monohydroxide and water-soluble organic polymer, and wherein the water-soluble organic polymer comprises water-soluble cellulosic organic polymer and water-soluble noncellulosic organic polymer. A printing medium which may be ink jet printed eliminates or reduces coalescence of a wide variety of ink jet printing inks and often provides fast drying times. This embodiment comprises: (a) a substrate having at least one surface; and (b) a coating on the surface wherein the coating comprises: (1) a binder comprising organic polymer, wehrein poly(ethylene oxide) having a weight average molecular weight in the range of from 100,000 to 3,000,000 constitutes at least 20 percent by weight of the organic polymer; and (2) discrete particles dispersed in the binder, which particles have a number average particle size in the range of from 1 to 500 nanometers.
