    • The present invention refers to a green colored, infrared and ultraviolet radiation absorbing glass article having a composition comprising a base glass portion comprising:

      SiO 2 66 to 75 percent by weight,
      Na 2 O 10 to 20 percent by weight,
      CaO 5 to 15 percent by weight,
      MgO 0 to 5 percent by weight,
      Al 2 O 3 0 to 5 percent by weight,
      K 2 O 0 to 5 percent by weight,
      and a solar radiation absorbing and colorant portion consisting essentially of:

      total iron 1 to less than 1.4 percent by weight,
      FeO 0.2 to 0.6 percent by weight,
      CoO greater than 200 to 500 PPM,
      Se 5 to 70 PPM,
      Cr 2 O 3 greater than 0.0200 to 0.0800 percent by weight,
      TiO 2 0 to about 1 percent by weight,
      the glass having a luminous transmittance (LTA) of up to 60 percent at at least one thickness in the range of 1.8 to 5.0 mm.

    • The present invention provides a windshield with a heating arrangement to heat the wiper rest area of the windshield. The windshield includes first and second glass sheets secured together by an interlayer. A single, continuous resistance heating wire is secured between the glass sheets and makes multiple passes through a predetermined portion of the windshield generally corresponding to the wiper rest area such that the wire generates a desired power density within the predetermined portion to heat the wiper rest area. Opposing first and second ends of the wire extend to common connection area along an edge of the windshield and a connector secured to the wire ends provides for external electrical access to the wire. The wire may also extend along a marginal edge portion of the windshield generally corresponding to its A-post area. In one particular embodiment of the invention, an opaque ceramic band is bonded to a major surface of the second glass sheet, which forms the inner ply of the windshield, along its marginal edge portion such that the wire is not visible when the windshield is viewed through the second glass sheet. In addition, the wire may include a coating having a color that generally corresponds to the color of the opaque ceramic band to mask the appearance of the wire when the windshield is viewed through the first glass sheet.

    • The present invention relates to a vibration dampening/sound absorbing aircraft transparency (20) which includes an outboard pane assembly (26), a vibration dampening/sound absorbing pane assembly (28) and a spacer frame assembly (30) for retaining the outboard pane assembly (26) and the vibration dampening/sound absorbing pane assembly (28) in spaced-apart generally parallel facing relationship to provide a space (32) therebetween. The vibration dampening/sound absorbing pane assembly (28) is a multilayer laminate which includes a substrate (40), an adhesive interlayer (42) provided over a surface of the substrate (40) and a sound dampening material layer (44) provided over the adhesive interlayer (42) and adhered by the adhesive interlayer (42) to the substrate (40). In an alternative embodiment, the aircraft transparency (60) of the present invention includes in addition to the foregoing, a transparent electroconductive coating (64) interposed between the adhesive interlayer (42) and the substrate (40) and facilities (66,68) in contact with the electroconductive coating (64) to pass a current through the electroconductive coating (64) to heat the coating sufficiently to remove or to prevent the accumulation of fog, ice, frost and the like on the aircraft transparency (60).
