Les connexions avec les contacts, entre les cellules, sont de préférence effectuées à l'aide d'une pâte de brasage à base d'étain et d'argent, en une proportion comprise entre 96 % d'étain/4 % d'argent environ et 98 % d'étain/ 2 % d'argent environ. Des cellules photovoltaïques pourvues des contacts (28) produits selon la présente invention sont susceptibles de supporter des températures avoisinant 150 °C sans présenter de dégradation thermique, ou en présentant une faible dégradation thermique par rapport à la force d'adhérence au contact dans la région des liaisons par brasage.

摘要： Photovoltaic cells with silver-rich thick film electrical contacts and superior thermal aging properties are disclosed. Electrical wires are bonded to the silver-rich thick film contacts using a tin and silver solder paste comprising between about 96 % tin/4 % silver and 98 % tin/2 % silver. Solar cells having soldered connections incorporating the present invention exhibit the capability of withstanding temperatures in the range of 150 °C with little or no deterioration of the solder bonds for periods far longer than conventionally prepared cells.

摘要： A method of applying metallized contacts to a solar cell substrate (20), the front surface (26) of which is covered with a dielectric layer (30). The method involves forming a plurality of apertures (35) extending through the dielectric layer (30) using a laser beam and defining a grid-shaped electrode. The apertures comprise a plurality of microscopically-sized holes that are arranged in a series of rows, with the holes being spaced a relatively short distance from one another. Nickel is plated (60) onto the portions of the substrate exposed through the apertures. The nickel plating (60) is then overcoated with copper (86) which is preferably applied by a contactless light-induced plating process. The copper plating (86) process causes copper to be deposited sot that it bridges (87) over the dielectric layer (30) between the holes so as to form an integrated grid electrode structure.

The apparatus comprises an elongated hollow housing member (102, 402) having an open top end and a closed bottom end. Under the force of the spring means (204), the support means (206) moves rapidly upward within the hollow housing member (102, 402) until it hits a stop means (136) at which moment the charge of source material is projected into a deflector member (536) which deflects the charge into the melt.

摘要： A process of manufacturing silicon solar cells with efficiencies of between about 12.5 % and about 16.0 % is described, the method being characterized by forming a P/N junction (4) adjacent the front surface of a silicon substrate (2), subjecting the front surface of the substrate to a selected plasma surface etch treatment, and then forming a polysilazane coating (10) on the etched front surface by (a) first subjecting the substrate to an ammonia plasma treatment for a predetermined period of time so as to produce hydrogen implantation and (b) subjecting the substrate to a silane and ammonia plasma treatment to obtain additional hydrogen implantation and formation of a polysilazane (hydrogenated silicon nitride) coating. The polysilazane coating (10) is etched to form a grid electrode pattern (12A). An aluminum coating (14) is applied to the rear side of the substrate so as to form a back electrode. The exposed silicon on the front side of the substrate is coated with an adherent coating of a highly conductive metal so as to form a grid electrode (20).
