摘要： An unbroadcasted program is recommended to a user. A server is supplied with preference degree data as indexes of taste of users for programs from user terminals, and calculates, based on this preference degree data, correlations of preference tendencies of the programs to other users using the service. The user terminal displays an electronic program table transmitted from the server, and when reservation of viewing or recording is inputted from the user, reservation information is transmitted to the server. The server calculates predicted values of preference degrees of the respective users for programs to be broadcasted hereafter, on the basis of the correlations of the preference degrees and the reservation information, and transmits them to the respective user terminals. The user terminal refers to the preference degree predicted values of the broadcast scheduled programs, and prepares a list of programs to be recommended to the user.

The interactive television program guide provides users with an opportunity to define expressions that are processed by the program guide server. Users' viewing histories may be tracked. 摘要： The invention relates to the reception of data by a data broadcast receiver, particularly, a mobile data receiver for the Japanese TV data multibroadcast sound subcarrier system. The receiver is controlled to receive a desired type of data, for example, weather forecasts, news, stock prices, etc. The invention provides the transmission of time information which specifies, for each type of data, when the data will be transmitted or retransmitted. This allows the receiver to enter a standby mode in which the power consumption is reduced. On, or slightly before, the specified time, the receiver switches on to receive, decode and display the desired data. The invention is also applicable in television receivers having the facility to receive electronic program guides (EPG) or other services. The receiver is informed about the time at which an updated version of the EPG can be expected. In order to reduce power consumption in the receiver's standby mode, the hardware for receiving the EPG is not activated until the specified instant of time.

A centralized server gathers data related to end user viewing preferences by polling end user devices on what multimedia presentation is currently being accessed. This data is then processed and collated by the centralized server such that each multimedia presentation currently available to the end user devices is given a rating based on its popularity with the end users. The data can then be accessed by each end user device by requesting such multimedia presentation specific data from the server. Once the server has send this data, it can then be presented to the end user by way of a user interface that not only gives the relevant data regarding the multimedia presentation such as its rating and where it is being broadcast, but also provides the end user with a view of the multimedia presentation as currently being shown.
