摘要： Carbon monoxide is removed from air prior to cryogenic separation of oxygen and nitrogen. Feed air is compressed and the heat of compression is used without further heating to drive catalytic oxidation of CO to CO 2 over a Pd and/or Pt on alumina catalyst followed by adsorption of water initially present and then either adsorption of hydrogen or oxidation of hydrogen to water and its removal by adsorption, along with carbon dioxide.

摘要： An air prepurification process which includes, as a first step, a pressure swing adsorption process (A,B) in which the air (2) is passed through a bed of adsorbent which contains activated alumina (22a,22b), thereby effecting removal of substantially all moisture and most carbon dioxide from the feed air, and, as a second step, a temperature swing adsorption process (C,D) in which the dried feed air is passed through a bed of carbon dioxide-selective adsorbent (58a,58b), thereby removing substantially all of the carbon dioxide remaining in the feed air. The feed air may be passed through beds of hydrogen oxidation and carbon monoxide oxidation catalysts (54a,54b,56a,56b) between the first and second steps to convert any hydrogen and carbon monoxide in the feed air to water vapour and carbon dioxide, respectively, these components being removed from the feed air during the second step. The feed air may be optionally passed through a layer of a hydrocarbon selective adsorbent between (24a,24b) the first and second steps to remove hydrocarbons such as ethylene, propylene and propane. Other gases may be purified instead of air.

摘要： A mixture of noble gases having desirable insulative properties for use as a window fill gas is derived from an air separation process without substantial further separation or concentration of the noble gases in the mixtures. The mixture of noble gases is processed to form the fill gas using relatively economical catalytic oxidation processes and drying techniques to provide a suitable fill gas. The processed noble gas or fill gas may contain from about 89 to 95% krypton, 5 to 8% xenon and 0.5 to 2% contaminants including oxygen, nitrogen, hydrocarbons and other constituents typically found in air separation processing.
