    • A system for providing input to a computer comprises a touchscreen apparatus for generating a grid of horizontal and vertical light beams and producing a set of output signals, each indicating whether a corresponding one of the light beams strikes an object. A scanning device repeatedly scans the states of the output signals, stores data representing the last scanned state of each output signal, and transmits a first interrupt signal to the computer whenever the state of any one of the output signals changes. In response to the interrupt signal, the computer reads the stored scan data, determines whether the data indicates that a horizontal and a vertical light beam is striking an object, and if so, sets parameter values to identify the horizontal and vertical light beams. In response to a second interrupt signal periodically generated by a clock, the computer determines whether or not the parameter values have remained constant for a predetermined period, and if so executes a routine responsive to the parameter values.

    • Information regarding a statistical property of a wave is collected by electronically sampling the wave at a first sample point within a waveform epoch and measuring the magnitude of the wave at that sample point relative to a datum magnitude. Respective bands within a range of magnitudes are allocated to a plurality of addressable locations in an electronic memory device, and the contents of the addressable location to which is allocated the band of magnitudes in which the measured magnitude of the wave at the first sample point lies, is incremented by one unit. These steps are repeated for a plurality of additional sample points in a waveform epoch, the sample points being incoherent relative to the wave.

    • A digital oscilloscope comprises a circuit for detecting inaccurate reconstructions of waveforms. The fundamental frequency of the input signal under test of the oscilloscope is determined by a frequency determining circuit (20,50) and compared with the sampling frequency. If the fundamental frequency is larger than a predetermined fraction of the sampling frequency, an alias flag signal is produced by a circuit (56) giving a warning to the user that inaccurate reconstruction of a waveform can occur. The sampling rate can be increased in response to the occurrence of the alias flag signal to ensure accurate reconstruction of the waveform on the display means of the oscilloscope.

    • A signal sampling and conversion system for high-frequency sampling of either recurrent or non-recurrent signals in which the electron beam (6) generated by an electron gun assembly (2) of a CRT (1) is scanned across a charge coupled device (5) consisting of an array of storage elements located at the focal plane of the electron beam (6), with the time base and defection cicuit (9) of the CRT (1) being used to scan the beam (6) across the array at a rate equal to the sample rate. Depending on the configuration of the storage elements, which can be a linear array of rectangular or triangular elements, or a rectangular array, the beam current (6) is modulated or the Y deflection plates (3) are controlled by the input signal (13). Charges accumulate in the elements of the array which are indicative of the amplitude or range of amplitudes of the input signal (13) during the period of each sample; the accumulated charges are transferred from the storage elements, quantized (10) and digitally processed (11) to yield the amplitude of the signal.

    • A waveform digitizer particularly suitable for use in electronic test systems for analyzing and displaying analog signals is disclosed. A digitally derived reference voltage is compared with the analog signal to be digitized during a series of comparison sequences. Simultaneously with the start of each comparison sequence a digital clock is started. Each time the analog signal rises above, or drops below, the reference voltage a decision change detector produces an enable pulse. Each time an enable pulse occurs, a data word, having a portion related to the value of the digitally derived reference voltage and a portion related to the digital clock value, is stored and/or used to control a display. At the end of the first comparison sequence (determined when the digital clock value reaches a predetermined level) the reference voltage is incremented and a second comparison sequence started. These steps are repeated until the reference voltage reaches a predetermined level. The resulting set of digital words is a digitized equivalent of the waveform of the analog signal.
