    • The present invention relates to a continuous flexible web (20) with mutually subsequently disposed package pockets (26) and a method of opening and filling these pockets. The web displays two opposing walls (21a, b) and longitudinal first and second edges (22, 23) between which the pockets are located. Each respective wall (21a, b) includes, at the second edge region (23), two opposing edge portions (24a, b) with continuous retainer devices (43a, b) disposed in the longitudinal direction of the web for cooperation with mechanical devices for guiding the edge portions on movement of the web into an apparatus for the supply of contents to the pockets (26). Between the pockets, there are disposed transverse slots (27) which, in the region of the edge portions (24a, b) merge into longitudinal slots (29). The edge portions (24a, b) include strip-like portions which form the second edge (23) of the web and which connect to retainer devices (43a, b) located between the longitudinal slots (29) and the second edge (23) of the web. On opening and filling of the package pockets, the edge regions (24a, b) of the walls are displaced by means of mechanical devices (33a, b) from one another in order to open the pockets, and towards one another in order, after filling, to close the pockets. On closure, the edge regions (24a, b) are kept adjacent one another and the longitudinal slots (29) are covered by strips (14a, b) which are fixed to each respective wall (21a, b).

    • A crosswise heat sealing mechanism in a bag making-wrapping machine is constructed such that: a pair of crosswise heat sealing means (20) provided on the downstream of a former (2) for forming a wrapper (S) into a predetermined shape so as to be opposed to each other across a conveying path of a wrapper (S) and for the purpose of applying to the wrapper (S) to be filled up with a filler material a suitable crosswise heat sealing treatment in accordance with a film thickness and a material quality thereof; a pair of swingable arms (11) for swinging the crosswise heat sealing mechanism; and a path-contact pressure adjusting means (H) for moving the pair of swingable arms (11) toward or away from each other to cause the pair of crosswise heat sealing means (20) to draw a rectilinear path along the moving path of the wrapper (S) and holding the contact pressure between the pair of crosswise heat sealing means (20) at a predetermined one. With this arrangement, the above-described contact pressure is held at a predetermined constant value, so that the wrapper (S) can be prevented from receiving an excessive pressure.
