A node in the network, such as a router, transmits at least one data stream comprising a plurality of data packets to a second node; the data streams can correspond to existing voice calls being transmitted through the network. The bandwidth utilization between the first node and second node is determined, and supervision packets are forwarded from the first node to the second node at a rate that is a function of the bandwidth utilization, the rate being inversely-proportional to the bandwidth utilization. At the second node, the congestion of the network can be determined based on the rate at which the supervision packets are received and, if the congestion exceeds a predefined threshold, the establishment of new voice calls through the second node and into the network can be limited.

A request for the communications service to be charged on a subscriber's prepayment account is detected, and a credit information request is sent to a prepayment support node (PPSC) identified by the stored prepayment support node address (PA). A credit information is received, and the requested communications service is processed according to the credit information. The invention provides a device for said charging as well.

摘要： A method and apparatus for generating a TCP packet connection between a remote host on a first network and a mobile station on a mobile network is disclosed. The process initially involves performing a three-way handshake routine between the remote host and a gateway packet mobile switching center of the mobile network to establish the validity of a TCP packet connection request. During the handshake routine transmissions from the remote host are buffered by the gateway packet mobile switching center. A second three-way handshake routine is then carried out between the gateway packet mobile switching center and the mobile station using the buffered transmissions to complete a TCP connection between the mobile station and the remote host.

摘要： A voice gateway for effectuating voice communication with a mobile station, is provided, which is capable of receiving an incoming voice call and capable of routing said voice call toward the mobile station by enabling packet-switched communications with the mobile station on a packet channel if the mobile station is not able to operate in a voice mode. A related method comprises the steps of determining if said mobile station is capable of operation in a voice mode, mapping an identity of the mobile station to an Internet Protocol address of the mobile station and routing said incoming voice call to said mobile station by enabling packet-switched communications with said mobile station on a packet data channel of said mobile radio network, if said mobile station is not capable of operation in a voice mode.
