    • A specific region is extracted from an input image with high precision. Based on a long diameter (L) of a set specific region (RA), a first region (R1) estimated as highly probable to be the specific region (RA) and a second region (R2) estimated as highly probable to be a background region (RB) are set within the input image. Based on a density histogram of each pixel in the first region (R1) and a density histogram of each pixel in the second region (R2), a first evaluation value which indicates a likelihood that a density value represents the specific region (RA) is calculated for each density value. For each pair of two adjacent pixels within an input image (I), based on the first evaluation values respectively corresponding to the two adjacent pixels, a second evaluation value which indicates a likelihood that the two adjacent pixels represent a contour is calculated. Based on the second evaluation value, a connection cost between a plurality of nodes respectively representing each pair of the two adjacent pixels within the input image (I) is set. The plurality of nodes are connected to each other based on the connection cost, to thereby extract the specific region (RA) from the input image (I).

    • The invention in this application is an information acquisition/identification system provided with an image-feature storing unit, an extracting unit, an acquiring unit, and an identifying unit. The image-feature storing unit stores image features of texture patterns formed on components or products. The extracting unit extracts an information-label image and a texture-pattern image from a taken image containing at least the following: an information label that displays information regarding a component, a product, or a product comprising said component; and a texture pattern formed on said component or product. The acquiring unit acquires, from the extracted information-label image, the aforementioned information regarding the component or product. The identifying unit identifies the component, product, or component-comprising product by matching image features of the extracted texture-pattern image against the image features stored by the image-feature storing unit.

    • A method and system for occlusion region detection and measurement between a pair of images are disclosed. A processing device receives a first image and a second image. The processing device estimates a field of motion vectors between the first image and the second image. The processing device motion compensates the first image toward the second image to obtain a motion-compensated image. The processing device compares a plurality of pixel values of the motion-compensated image to a plurality of pixels of the first image to estimate an error field. The processing device inputs the error field to a weighted error cost function to obtain an initial occlusion map. The processing device regularizes the initial occlusion map to obtain a regularized occlusion map.

    • The invention is directed to a method for comparing in a binary image a first pixel blob with a second pixel blob to determine whether they represent matching symbols. The method comprises the steps of dilating the first blob and checking if the second blob fits inside the dilated first blob, and dilating the second blob and checking if the first blob fits inside the dilated second blob. If the dilating steps result in a match, the method checks whether the match is erroneous or not by checking if the non-dilated first pixel blob contains a line not present in the non-dilated second pixel blob and vice versa. This latter step further comprises directly comparing corresponding sets of NxN crosses of two crossing lines in the non-dilated first and second pixel blobs, wherein each corresponding set of NxN crosses comprises a first NxN cross considered on the non-dilated first pixel blob and a second NxN cross considered on the non-dilated second pixel blob in the same position, and declaring an erroneous match if for at least one of the sets one of the two crossing lines of the first NxN cross has a different color from the other line of the two crossing lines of the second NxN cross, wherein N is a number of bits.
