    • A developing sleeve (10) for a magnetic brush developing unit, which is provided with a plurality of axially parallel grooves (11) formed at a predetermined pitch in the circumferential direction on the surface thereof, is disclosed. Each of the grooves and the interfacing portion between each groove and its adjacent circumferential surface curve gradually and gently in section in the circumferential direction of the developing sleeve. The pitch for the formation of the grooves may be set to be equal to or larger than the difference in travel length between the surface of the developing sleeve and that of a photosensitive drum during the time required for a point on the photosensitive drum during the time required for a point on the photosentive drum to move along the full length of a developing area.

    • An image forming apparatus, comprises an electrostatic image-bearing member for holding an electrostatic charge image and a toner-carrying member having a surface for carrying a magnetic toner thereon, wherein the surface of the toner-carrying member has an unevenness comprising sphere-traced concavities formed by blasting with particles with a definite spherical shape; the magnetic toner comprises 17 - 60 % by number of particles of 5 microns or smaller, 1 - 23 % by number of particles of 8 - 12.7 microns, and 16 microns or larger and has a volume-average particle size of 4 - 11 microns; the electrostatic image-bearing member and the toner-carrying member are disposed with a prescribed gap therebetween at a developing station; means for forming a magnetic toner layer on the toner-­carrying member in a thick which is thinner than the prescribed gap; and means for applying an alternating electric field for development with the magnetic toner at the developing station. The surface of the toner-­carrying member comprising the sphere-traced concavities shows a function of uniformly forming a thin toner layer thereon when combined with the magnetic toner having a specific particle size distribution while the soiling of the surface is prevented for a long period.

    • The photocopier uses a development process employing a magnetic brush formed on a rotating sleeve (102) of non-magnetic material in which a system of permanent magnets (108) rotates. The outer surface of the sleeve is subjected to a sandblasting process after grinding in order to create a very uniform finely roughened surface in order to make the thickness of the toner layer forming the magnetic brush constant. The photocopier also employs a toner fixing system operating cold and under pressure by means of a pair of rollers (56, 58) of different diameter rotating at the same angular speed in order to create slippage of the upper roller relative to the lower roller for the purpose of obtaining perfectly flat copies. The coppier also contains a single circuit board (80) for the low voltage and high voltage supply.

    • An apparatus (20) which develops a latent electrostatic image with magnetic particles (54). The apparatus (20) includes a member (62) having a multiplicity of magnetic fibres (66) extending outwardly therefrom. At least a portion of the fibres (66) have the free end regions thereof contacting the latent image. A magnet field attracts the particles (54) to the member (62). Relative movement between the member (62) and magnet field moves the particles (54) into contact with the latent image and moves the free ends of the fibres (68). As the particles (54) are deposited on the latent image, the end regions of the fibres (66) move forming a substantially uniform particle image.
