摘要： An arrangement for splicing two optical fibers together includes a tube into the respective ends of which each of the optical fibers is inserted. The tube has an eliptical cross-section. The tube is also curved and has an approximate 15° arch along its major axis. This construction results in self alignment of the fiber ends in both a vertical and a horizontal direction. A housing is either formed with the tube in a one piece unit or is subsequently positioned around the tube after the optical fiber ends are spliced. An optical adhesive material may be inserted into the tube and sleeve to prevent light transmission loss due to Fresnel reflections.

摘要： An optical fiber splice comprises two coated fibers (50, 51) generally of fused silicon, fusion spliced end-to-end. The coating (52, 53) is removed from the ends of the fibers for a short distance prior to fusion. After fusion the uncoated ends and a short length of coated fiber, each side of the fusion joint, are encased in a synthetic resin (55). Conveniently, the resin is molded about the fibers and is cured by radiation, such as UV light, bright visual light and ion bombardment. The resin may contain reinforcement material (56).

摘要： A housing for a fiber optic splice, in particular, for a splice of the glass tubular type, includes mating top and bottom sections. The bottom section (11) is characterized by two sets of four chamfered teeth (12,13) positioned at either end and along the sides of a primary portion. A trough is formed in the primary portion so as to accommodate the contours of the particular splice to be encountered. The top section includes a center portion with walls extending upwards from both sides. Elevated members extend upward from the surface at each end of the center portion so as to provide, in concert with the chamfered teeth of the bottom section, an aperture through which a glass fiber may be inserted. Tapered tabs in the walls of the top section lock into longitudinal cavities cut out of the bottom section so as to maintain a relatively fixed relationship between the two sections.
