摘要： It enables to shorten a communication time for both-side transmission in a case where an original document includes such information of the one side as being blank, and further to perform, on a reception side, both-side recording intended by a transmission side even if the order of pages to be transmitted is changed or even if the front and/or back sides of the original document are took out and put in.
When page data including image data of either one of front and back sides of the original document is transmitted and received, a transmitter adds, to the page data to be transmitted, attribute data of at least a page counter (PC) representing the number of pages of the real original document, information (SIDE) representing whether the front side or the back side of the original document, and virtual page number data (VPC) synchronous with transmission order of the page data, and then transmits the page data added with the attribute data, and a receiver side image-records the received page data to both sides of a recording paper, on the basis of the transmitted attribute data of the page counter (PC) representing the number of pages of the real original document and the information (SIDE) representing whether the front side or the back side of the original document.

The appliance includes a processor for manipulating and exhibiting the images on a built-in display screen (24). Program code (70)stored in the internal memory (64) includes a send page or image module (96) that allows the user to transfer data (74) stored in the device to another appliance, device or system. The send page module (96) controlling the transfer of data to another device includes code segments for establishing a communication link over a first communication port with the target device, monitoring the status of the link while the transfer is in progress, and displaying an animation on the display screen (24) that graphically portrays the transfer of image data to the target device. According to another aspect of the appliance (22), the send page module (96) includes code segments for attempting an image transfer over one or more alternative communication ports if the transfer over the first communication port was unsuccessful.

First, preferably, the printing unit is operated and a plurality of band memories for scanning and printing are initialized after receiving a signal from the printing unit indicating the preparation for printing is completed. Next, the document is scanned and a predetermined amount of scanned data is stored in one band memory from preferably a plurality of band memories. After the data is stored, the data is transmitted to the printing unit, and printing is performed whilst simultaneously the document is continuously scanned. Next, a predetermined amount of data is stored in another band memory out of a plurality of band memories. The steps are preferably repeatedly performed until scanning one page of the document is completed.
