    • An electricity driven device and method for increasing the rotational inertia of a rotary object or the blade of a lawn mower includes securing an annular fixed element on a non-rotating main shaft. A rotary element (4) has one part extending to a front end of the main shaft (3) to form a coupler (2) which is coupled to the rotary object or the blade (1), while the other part thereof extending around the periphery of the fixed element (5) to increase the rotational inertia of the rotary object (1). A plurality of permanent magnets (51) or coils (41) are arranged around the periphery of the fixed element (5). Correspondingly, a plurality of coils (41) or permanent magnets (51) are arranged at the inner rim of the rotary element (4). When electric currents are supplied to the coils (41), an electromagnetic field is generated between the coils (41) and the permanent magnets (51) to drive the rotary element (4) to bring the coupler (2) and the rotary object (1) to rotate therewith.

    • In a p.m.d.c. electric motor (l), having a wound armature and a commutator (4), a centrifugal fan (24) is mounted on the end of the armature between the armature and brushes (l4) which contact the commutator. By positioning the fan (24) in this region it is not necessary to the extend the motor casing (5) as with prior art designs where a fan is mounted on shaft (2). The fan comprises a plurality of blades (26) integral with an annular blade support (25, 27) secured to the end of the armature proximate the commutator and at a position adjacent to the outer peripheral surface of the armature, by glue or by snap-fit engagement with a fan mounting member (40) connected to the armature by armature coils.
