摘要： This invention relates to an apparatus (high shear device) and method for treating liquid metals by intensive melt shearing. The apparatus comprises a stator and a rotor with a small gap between them to provide intensive melt shearing for dispersing efficiently and distributing uniformly gas, liquid and solid phases in liquid metals without severe turbulence at the melt surface. The device can be extended to a multistage high shear pump by arranging individual rotor/stator assemblies either concentrically (one in another) or vertically. The device and high shear pump can be readily integrated into existing casting processes. The device is suitable for use in casting processes including high pressure die casting, low pressure die casting, gravity die casting, sand casting, investment casting, direct chill casting, twin roll casting, and any other casting process which requires liquid metal as a feedstock. In addition, the device is particularly suitable for providing conditioned liquid metal for both shape casting and continuous (or semi-continuous) casting of metallic materials, preparing high quality semi-solid slurries, solidification processing of particulate reinforced metal matrix composites, mixing immiscible metallic liquids and degassing of liquid metals prior to any casting processes.

摘要： A system and method for forming and heat treating metal castings is provided with a vertical heat treatment unit positioned adjacent and downstream from a pouring station at which a series of molds are filled with a molten metal to form the castings. The vertical heat treatment unit includes a vertically oriented furnace chamber in which the castings are received, and which has a reduced footprint to reduce the manufacturing floor space required for the vertical heat treatment unit, and to enable the vertical heat treatment unit to be positioned in close proximity to the pouring station.

摘要： A system for cleaning molds within presses is disclosed wherein the system utilizes a light source (10) including a laser (12) to clean surfaces with the mold (16). The light source (10) is aligned with an opening in the mold (16) and light from the laser (12) is directed on to the mold surfaces (40, 42) to vaporize residual material thereon to thereby clean the surfaces (40, 42). The light source (10) may be formed as a portable unit movable between different presses, or the light source (10) may be in the form of a single laser (110) with a plurality of light paths (118) leasing from the laser (110) to individual presses (120A-D) such that light may be selectively conveyed along the light paths (118) to clean the molds within the presses (120A-D).

L'invention trouve son application dans le nettoyage des rigoles ou de tout autre récipient garni de réfractaires ayant été en contact avec des produits en fusion et dont les parois doivent être débarassées des dépôts dont elles sont recouvertes soit pour leur rendre leurs dimensions initiales, soit pour permettre leur remise en état.

摘要： A pouring tank transfer assembly comprises support tracks (10, 12, 22, 24) for respective transfer cars (20, 28) adapted to mount pouring tanks (not shown) filled with molten metal which thus can be rolled from respective loading stations (14, 26) to a pouring station (16). The support tracks (10, 12, 22, 24) are of a double rail configuration and are at an acute angle to one another whose vertex is at the pouring station (16). A third, guide rail (18, 30) extends parallel to each set of tracks (10, 12, 22, 24). Each transfer car (20, 28) is equipped with flangeless wheels which roll along the transfer tracks, and has a support arm (52, 53) from which guide rollers extend. Such guide rollers contact the respective guide rail (18, 30) to provide lateral stability for each car (20, 28).
