    • The invention relates to an inhaler component for producing a steam/air mixture or/and condensation aerosol in an intermittent and inhalation- or pull-synchronous manner. Said inhaler component comprises the following elements: a housing (3); a chamber (21) arranged in said housing (3); an air inlet opening (26) for the supply of air from the surroundings to the chamber (21); an electrical heating element for evaporating a portion of a liquid material(16), the steam produced mixing in the chamber (21) with the air supplied through the air inlet opening (26), thereby producing the steam/air mixture or/and condensation aerosol; and a wick having a capillary structure, which wick forms a composite structure (22) with the heating element and automatically supplies the heating element with fresh liquid material (16) after evaporation. In order to provide the high specific evaporative capacity required for an intermittent, inhalation- or pull-synchronous operation of the inhaler component (2) while guaranteeing a high efficiency of the evaporator, the composite structure (22) is a flat structure and at least one heated section of the composite structure (22) is arranged in the chamber (21) in a contact-free manner, and the capillary structure of the wick is substantially exposed in said section on at least one side (24) of the flat composite structure.

    • The invention provides a method for making a fuel element (40) for a smoking article (10) comprising forming a combustible carbonaceous material into a fuel element adapted for use in a smoking article; incorporating a metal-containing catalyst precursor into the fuel element or onto the surface thereof to form a treated fuel element, the incorporating step occurring before, during, or after said forming step; and optionally heating or irradiating the treated fuel element at a temperature and for a time sufficient to convert the catalyst precursor to a catalytic metal compound. Examples of metal-containing catalyst precursors include iron nitrate, copper nitrate, cerium nitrate, cerium ammonium nitrate, manganese nitrate, magnesium nitrate, and zinc nitrate. Fuel elements treated according to the invention, and smoking articles including such fuel elements, are also provided.

    • A smokeless cigarette for e.g. anti-smoke purposes includes a part (8) that can deliver or distribute nicotine to the skin of a user. The cigarette includes a mouthpiece part (2) having an inner porous body (3) permeable to air, designed substantially as a filter of a filter cigarette. The front part (4) that corresponds to the tobacco part of a filter cigarette. can be made to include an inner portion (5) of for example an air permeable material impregnated with a fragrant or refreshing substance. The inner bodies are secured to each other by and surrounded by a surface layer (7) of a material that in a region (8) in the mouthpiece part is impregnated with nicotine. The surface layer can have perforations (9) in its area adjacent to the front part in the case where the inner portion of the front part of the cigarette is not permeable to air. Before use, the whole cigarette is enclosed by a thin protective film (10) that has to be removed before use. By the impregnation with nicotine, the nicotine can when using the cigarette, in the contact with a user's skin, penetrate the skin into the blood and hence give stimulation.
