摘要： A single pass, multi-colour electrostatographic printer comprises a transfer member (94), which is driven along a continuous path. A plurality of toner images of different colours are simultaneously electrostatically deposited in powder form in register with each other on the transfer member (94) to form a multiple toner image thereon. Substrate (28) is fed into contact with the transfer member. The multiple toner image is thereby transferred to at least one face of the substrate. The printer includes heating means (109) for heating the multiple toner image on the transfer member in advance of the transfer of the image to the substrate and cooling means (110) for cooling the transfer member following the transfer of the multiple toner image therefrom to the substrate to a temperature below the glass transition temperature T g of the toner, prior to the deposition of further toner images on the transfer member.

摘要： An image forming apparatus which is adapted to transfer an image on a roll sheet (4C) fed out of a roll body (4C1) and transported through a transportation path (D3) to an image forming section (20, 22, 24). When a user opens a front door (1b) of the image forming apparatus and sets a new roll body (4C1) around a feed reel (53) thereof, the leading edge (4C2) of a roll sheet (4C) fed out of the roll body (4C1) is located at a predetermined position in the transportation path (D3). When the user closes the front door (1b) upon completion of replacement of the roll body (4C1), the roll sheet (4C) is further fed out, and a leading edge portion of the roll sheet (4C) having a predetermined length from the leading edge thereof is cut off. The cut-off portion (550) is discharged through the transportation path (D3) out of a main body (1) of the image forming apparatus in the same manner as in an ordinary sheet transportation process.

In a preferred embodiment the means for superimposing colour separation images in registration on the final substrate (1) are a plurality of rotatable toner-image bearing photoconductive drums.

摘要： A fixation control device is provided which controls the operation of a fixing unit (35) having a heat roller (37) and a press roller (38) between which a sheet (4A, 4B, 4C, 4D) is passed. When copies are successively made on a plurality of narrow-size sheets (4A, 4B, 4C, 4D), the temperature of the end portions of the press roller (38) rises and, therefore, the difference between the temperatures of the end portions and the central portion of the press roller (38) becomes greater. The greater temperature difference results in a diameter difference between the central portion and the end portions of the press roller (38) due to thermal expansion, thereby reducing sheet transportation ability of the heat roller (37) and press roller (38). However, the fixation control device of the present invention can compensate the reduction in the transportation ability by increasing the rotational speed of the heat roller (37) and press roller (38) when the temperature difference becomes greater.

摘要： A copying machine using a roll sheet as a transfer sheet is provided which is capable of displaying the length of a remaining portion of the roll sheet. The copying machine includes pulse outputting devices 201, 204, 205 adapted to rotate with the rotation of feed reels 51, 52, 53 around which roll sheets 4A, 4B, 4C are respectively wound. When the roll sheet 4A, 4B, 4C is paid out, the feed reel 51, 52, 53 is rotated and, thereby, pulses are output from the pulse outputting device 201, 204, 205. A CPU 210 measures a pulse cycle L 1 , L 2 , L 3 , which is compared with a reference cycle L 0 . When the comparison result indicates that the measured cycle L 1 , L 2 , L 3 is not greater than the reference cycle L 0 , the remaining sheet display 211 displays a notice that the length of a remaining portion of the roll sheet 4A, 4B, 4C has been reduced to a predetermined level. Therefore, a user can easily know the length of the remaining portion of the roll sheet, and the replacement of the roll sheet and stock management can be facilitated.
