    • [Object] To provide a piezoelectric pump capable of generating a large displacement at a central portion of a piezoelectric element even when a driving voltage is relatively low and preventing short-circuits caused by migration.
      [Solving Means] A piezoelectric pump includes a pump body 1 with a pump chamber 2, and a piezoelectric element 21 that closes the pump chamber. The central area and the peripheral area of the piezoelectric element are deformed in opposite directions by applying voltages to the piezoelectric element so that the volume of the pump chamber 2 is changed. The piezoelectric element 21 is a laminate including a plurality of piezoelectric layers with electrodes interposed therebetween. The central area and the peripheral area of each piezoelectric layer are polarized opposite to each other in the thickness direction, and the electrodes are formed such that voltages in the same direction in the thickness direction are applied to the central area and the peripheral area of each piezoelectric layer. Since voltages at the same potential are applied to the electrodes formed in the same planes of the piezoelectric layers, short-circuits caused by migration can be prevented.

Dabei ist als Resonanzfeder (11) und Träger der Resonanzmasse (12) wenigstens eine solche stab-, blatt- oder bandförmige Feder (21) vorgesehen, auf welche das Piezoelement (1) an einem kurzen Hebelarm (23) einwirkt, und die an einem längeren Hebelarm (24) die Resonanzmasse (12) trägt, so dass zwischen den antreibenden Bewegungsamplituden des Piezoelements (1) und den resultierenden Bewegungsamplituden der Resonanzmasse (12) eine positive mechanische Wegübersetzung besteht.

    • An optical switch comprises a cell member (2) in which a cell (3) is formed and a waveguide member (42) having a microslit (13). The cell (3) the side wall (6) of which is a piezoelectric/electrostrictive body or a ferroelectric body is filled with a gas (31). The microslit (13) is filled with a liquid (32). The cell (3) communicates with the microslit (13) though a communication hole (73). The microslit (13) crosses an optical waveguide. At the intersection, the cell (3) is disposed. By applying an electric field to the piezoelectric/electrostrictive body or the ferroelectric body of the side wall (6) of the cell (3), the side wall (6) is expanded/contracted, and thereby a part of the gas (31) in the cell (3) is ejected into the microslit (13) through the communication hole (73). The loss of this optical switch does not increase even if the response speed is increased. The optical switch can be produced at low cost, has an excellent durability, and operates with low power consumption.

    • A diaphragm air pump comprises a pump chamber, a diaphragm and one or more piezoelectric beams or bimorphs. Fluid flows into the pump chamber and then flows out of it, the diaphragm is provided within the pump chamber, and one or more central openings are formed in the diaphragm. One or more central check valves are provided in the central openings. The diaphragm is just bonded with piezoelectric beams, not fixed to the lower housing of the pump chamber in order to get large displacement. With the provided diaphragm air pump, it is possible to actively adjust the air quantity according to the requirement for fuel cell or a part-to-be-cooled, and it is also possible to reduce noise and power consumption compared with a conventional fan type cooler or air pumps.
