    • A marine vessel having a door incorporated into a hull of the vessel, the marine vessel comprising a hull, a door opening provided in the hull and extending between an exterior surface of the hull and an area within the hull, and a door, wherein the door is hingedly mounted to the hull within the door opening by a hinge mechanism having a hinge axis which extends laterally across the door between opposite sides of the door, the door being pivotally movable about the hinge axis between a closed position in which a periphery of the door is surrounded by a door frame of the door opening and an open position in which the door is in a substantially horizontal orientation and extends outwardly away from the exterior surface of the hull, wherein the hinge mechanism has first and second hinge elements extending outwardly from respective opposite sides of the door into respective hinge mounts within the hull, an inner face of the door has a pair of sockets with open ends oriented towards the inner face of the door, each socket being located in the vicinity of both an upper or lower edge of the door and a respective one of the opposite sides of the door, and a pair of retractable pin mechanisms fitted to the hull, each retractable pin mechanism comprising a pin, which is movable within a housing fitted to the door frame, between a retracted position, in which the pin is located substantially within the door frame, and an extended position, in which the pin extends forwardly from the door frame in a transverse direction oriented towards the exterior surface of the hull and, when the door is in the closed position, is received within a respective socket to form a structural load-bearing assembly therebetween, and an actuator mechanism for moving the pins between the retracted and extended positions.

    • A laminated moulded part of fibre reinforced composite material comprises a central portion (24, fig 4) and a moulded edge (26, fig 4) around at least a part of a periphery of the central portion. A method of moulding is further provided comprising providing in a mould tool 4, 6 a preform comprising a central layer portion and a peripheral edge portion, the central layer portion including at least one fibrous layer 30 and a first resin 32, and the edge portion comprising a second resin 34 including a plurality of individual fibres 36 dispersed therein; closing the mould tool; and applying heat and pressure to cause the first and second resins to flow and to configure the moulding material in a fully moulded shape to form the laminated moulded part. Preferably, the central layer portion has long structural fibres (unidirectional fibre or fabric, woven or non-woven fabric) whereas the edge portion has short fibres (e.g. less than 50mm) which are optionally randomly distributed in the second resin. The first and second resins are preferably both thermosetting resins which are co-curable. The edge portion preferably comprises an elongate resin strip which may be substantially planar or rolled into an elongate rod. During compression, the peripheral edge portion is squeezed outwardly into a gap 90 at the interface 14 between the mould parts, the fibres in the peripheral edge portion flow towards the interface to at least partially block an opening 92 and restrict resin flow out of the cavity; thus reducing flash and increasing mould pressure.

    • A method of press moulding a moulding material to form a moulded part of fibre-reinforced resin matrix composite material, the method comprising the steps of: i. providing a mould tool having a lower mould part and an upper mould part, the upper mould part having a first moulding surface for moulding a first moulded surface of the moulded part and the lower mould part having a second moulding surface for moulding a second moulded surface of the moulded part; ii. providing a multilaminar panel of moulding material comprising at least one layer of fibres and at least one layer of resin, the multilaminar panel having first and second opposite major surfaces, a surface resin layer of the multilaminar panel being at or adjacent to the first major surface and a dry fibre layer of the multilaminar panel forming the second major surface; iii. locating the moulding material in the mould tool by disposing the second major surface on the second moulding surface of the lower mould part, the lower mould part being at an elevated temperature as compared to the temperature of the moulding material; iv. closing the mould tool to define a substantially closed mould cavity containing the moulding material; v. applying pressure to the moulding material in the mould cavity to configure the moulding material in a fully moulded shape, and after the applying pressure step v the resin in the multilaminar panel fully impregnates the dry fibres; and vi. substantially fully curing the resin to form a moulded part from the moulding material.
