    • Apparatus (10) for recovering compounds from a feed by electrodialysis, comprising an anode (1), a cathode (2) and a plurality of ion exchange membranes (3, 4) arranged between the anode and the cathode so as to form a stack of successive electrodialysis cells (17). Each cell comprises a feed compartment (5), a concentrate compartment (6) and at least two ion exchange membranes (3, 4), being a cation exchange membrane (3) and an anion exchange membrane (4), or a bipolar membrane (9) and either one of a cation exchange membrane (3) and an anion exchange membrane (4). The feed compartment (5) and the concentrate compartment (6) of each cell are separated by one of the at least two ion exchange membranes. According to the invention, at least one porous filtration membrane (11, 12) is stacked in the feed compartment (5) of each cell to form a barrier between the feed stream and one of the ion exchange membranes. A method for recovering compounds from a feed by electrodialysis is provided as well.
