    • An entire paper document is scanned as a double-sided printed part, subjected to a process such as image correction, and printed without any consciousness of single- and double-sided printed parts. In this case, even a single-sided printed original part undergoes double-sided printing, and unnecessary copying is done and charged even for a blank lower surface of the single-sided printed part. To avoid unwanted charging, very cumbersome operation must be done. That is, single- and double-sided printed original parts are sorted, and each sorted part is scanned. Single- or double-sided printing is designated for each scanned part, and printing is executed by a designated number of copies. According to this invention, whether the lower surface of a paper sheet is blank is determined. When the lower surface is determined to be blank, the image data of the upper surface of the paper sheet is documented together with a single-sided printing attribute; when it is determined not to be blank, the image data of the two surfaces of the paper sheet are documented together with a double-sided printing attribute. The image data is printed by controlling single-/double-sided printing of a device for the image data in accordance with the single- and double-sided printing/double-sided printing attribute documented together with the image data.

    • The image reading apparatus for photoelectrically reading an original image includes an image reading device and a detection device. The image reading device has a first reading unit for reading a visible image carried by the original image and a second reading unit for reading a reference image in a wavelength different from that used to read the visible image. The detection device acquires correlative pixel distribution information between a visible image signal and a reference image signal using the visible image and the reference image having been read by the image reading device and detects an image defect caused by a foreign particle deposited on the original image and a flaw of an original using the information.
The apparatus can detect the image defect of the film with pinpoint accuracy without erroneous detection without depending upon a type of the film and a state of the image, and output in excellent productivity an image of high quality whose image defect has been preferably corrected.
