摘要： A phase shift unit (12) provides a prescribed phase difference (π/2, for example) between a pair of optical signals transmitted via a pair of arms constituting a data modulation unit (20). A low-frequency signal f 0 is superimposed on one of the optical signals. A signal of which phase is shifted by π/2 from the low-frequency signal f 0 is superimposed on the other optical signal. A pair of the optical signals is coupled, and a part of which is converted into an electrical signal by a photodiode (3). 2f 0 component contained in the electrical signal is extracted. Bias voltage provided to the phase shift unit (12) is controlled by feedback control so that the 2f 0 component becomes the minimum.

摘要： According to an aspect of the invetion, an optical modulation device (100) includes a Mach-Zehnder modulator (120) and a controller (160,190). The Mach-Zehnder modulator (120) is supplied with a drive signal and a bias voltage. The Mach-Zehnder modulator (120) modulates inputted light on the basis of the drive signal and the bias voltage. The drive signal is selectively superimposed by a predetermined frequency signal, or the bias voltage is selectively superimposed by the predetermined frequency signal. The controller (170) selects a superimposing target which is either the drive signal or the bias voltage so as to change modulation formats.

摘要： The present invention suppresses to a minimum the degradation of the transmission quality caused by chromatic dispersion characteristic of an optical transmission medium, and the interplay between the chromatic dispersion and non-linear optical effects in dense WDM transport systems. A baseband input data signal is precoded in advance by a pre-coding unit (2), phase modulation is carried out using a precoded signal by the optical phase modulating unit (3), and the phase modulated optical signal is converted to an RZ intensity modulated signal by the optical filter unit (5) that performs phase-shift-keying to amplitude-shift-keying conversion. For example, an optical phase modulating unit (3) generates an encoded DPSK phase modulated signal using a differential phase shirt keying (DPSK) format, and a phase modulated signal is converted to an RZ intensity modulated signal by the optical filter unit (5) disposed downstream of the optical phase modulating unit (3).

摘要： An object of the invention is to provide a control system in which the phase shift between drive signals of an optical modulator can be reliably detected and compensated by a simple configuration. To this end, a control apparatus of the invention, for an optical modulator generating a signal light of a CS-RZ modulation system or the like by two LN modulators (10,20) connected in series, detects the phase shift between drive signals given to the former and latter stage LN modulators, or judges the phase shift between the drive signals based on intensity information of the electric spectrum of the signal light output from the optical modulator, to control the phases of the drive signals so as to minimize the phase shift. As a result, the phase shift between the drive signals can be reliably detected and compensated by an electric circuit with a simple configuration.
