摘要： A high pressure fuel pump having a variable fuel injection rate, including a pump body, a pump cylinder formed in the pump body and a piston reciprocable within the pump cylinder, which defines a pressurization chamber (120). The pump piston (106) has a reduced diameter portion which provides a primary piston (112). A piston annulus is slidably mounted thereon and provides a secondary piston (116). An annular actuation chamber (122) adjoins the secondary piston (116) opposite the pressurization chamber (120). An actuation passage (124) is provided between a return fuel drain and the ctuation chamber (122), which is selectively open or closed passively by pump piston (106) movement and/or dynamically by operation of an actuation solenoid valve (128). If the actuation chamber passage (124) is open, then during the pressurization stroke the secondary piston (116) will remain stationary relative to the pump body, but if it is closed then the secondary piston (116) must stroke in unison with the primary piston (112).

摘要： A compressed air system (10) includes an air compressor (12) the inlet of which is communicated to the vehicle engine turbocharger. The outlet of the air compressor is communicated through an air dryer (22) to a storage reservoir (26). A governor (28) is responsive to the pressure level in the reservoir (26) to generate an unloading signal unloading the air compressor (12) when the pressure in the reservoir (26) attains a predetermined value. The unloading signal is also communicated through a control valve (34, 38) to purge the air dryer during compressor unloading. The control valve closes communication between the governor (28) and the air dryer (22) to trap a predetermined pressure level in the purge volume of the air dryer (22) to prevent the air dryer from purging to atmospheric pressure. Accordingly, a predetermined air pressure level is maintained in the purge volume, so that the outlet of the turbocharger can never be communicated to atmospheric pressure.

摘要： 57 A pump has a reciprocatable pumping member driven by the actuator 14 shown, which comprises a cylinder 24 closed by a plunger 26. A hollow partition 28 divides the space between the plunger 26 and the cylinder 24 into two drive chambers 30a, 30b. Fluid can be selectably supplied at constant pressure to one or to both of the chambers to act on one or both of the faces 38, 40 and drive the plunger along the cylinder with differing force. The volume of fluid required to fully extend the actuator also differs, so that the actuator may be driven quickly or slowly with a low or high driving force from a supply providing fluid at a constant rate and pressure.
