摘要： An instrument carriage provides control of a surgical instrument coupled to the instrument carriage. The instrument carriage includes a control surface that is coupled to the surgical instrument to provide the control. A detection pin having a first distal end that extends from the control surface is coupled to the instrument carriage. A magnet is fixed to a proximal end of the detection pin. A carriage controller provides an indication that the surgical instrument is present on the instrument carriage when movement of the detection pin causes an output signal from a Hall effect sensor to exceed a presence threshold value that is stored in the carriage controller as part of a calibration procedure during the assembly of the instrument carriage. Surgical instrument removal may be indicated when detection pin movement causes the output signal to be less than a removal threshold value of less than the presence threshold value.

摘要： An entry guide tube and cannula assembly, a surgical system including the assembly, and a method of surgical instrument insertion are provided. In one embodiment, the assembly includes a cannula having a proximal portion that operably couples to an accessory clamp of a manipulator arm, and a distal tubular member coupled to the proximal portion, the tubular member having an opening for passage of at least one instrument shaft. The assembly also includes an entry guide tube rotatably coupled to the proximal portion of the cannula, the entry guide tube including a plurality of channels for passage of a plurality of instrument shafts, wherein the entry guide tube is rotatably driven relative to the proximal portion of the cannula by rotation of at least one instrument shaft about a longitudinal axis of the entry guide tube.

The illuminated protective covering can include a plurality of illuminating devices surrounding at least a majority of a length of each of the top and lateral edges of the surgical device. The instrument control unit comprises first and second plates, first and second lead screws, first and second yokes, and first and second motors. The first and second plates define a sleeve therebetween. Each of the first and second lead screws is disposed between the first and second plates. Each of the first and second yokes is threadedly engaged with its respective lead screw. The motors are disposed in mechanical cooperation with respective lead screws. Actuation of the motors causes rotation of its respective lead screw, which results in movement of its respective yoke along the longitudinal axis, and which is configured to effect a first function of a surgical instrument engaged with the instrument control unit.
