    • An injection moulding process for the manufacture of multi-­layered articles, especially articles having barrier properties, is disclosed. The process comprises clamping a thermoplastic film 14 over the cavity 4 of a mould 1 of an injection moulding process, the film 14 being capable of being stretched. The film 14 is then stretched within the mould 1 by inserrting the core 3 of the mould 1, preferably using a core 3 in which a central part 9 enters the mould 1 and partially stretches the film 14 prior to the remainder 5 of the core 3 entering the mould 1. The mould 1 is then closed, excess film 14 is trimmed off and polymer is injected into the mould cavity 17,18. The resultant article is a multi-layered injection moulded article which, depending on the characteristics of the film and injected polymer, may have barrier properties to oxygen, liquids or the like that are superior to articles moulded from only the polymer. The process is particularly useful in the moulding of containers having a depth:width ratio of at least 0.5.

    • Polymer compositions of improved flow characteristics are disclosed. The compositions comprise an injection-mouldable polymer and 0.5 to 10% by weight of a sodium salt of at least one C 6 -C 16 aliphatic monocarboxylic acid. In preferred embodiments, the acid is a C 6 -C 10 acid. Examples of the polymers are polyolefins, polyamides, polyesters and polystyrene. In a preferred embodiment, the polymer is a homopolymer of ethylene or a copolymer of ethylene and at least one C 4 -C 10 higher alpha-olefin. The compositions may be used, in particular, in injection moulding processes, e.g. inthe manufacture of containers

    • The present invention provides a food package comprising a tray having a floor, walls attached thereto, said walls having a rim distal to the floor, said tray having food placed therein and an amorphous polyester, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, a partially crystalline polyester, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, or amorphous nylon film stretched across the rim and extending down the outer portion of the wall adjacent to the rim in a vacuum-induced thermally-set crimp. The polyester or nylon may optionally be blended with a compatibilized polyolefin.
      The invention also provides a process for the production of a food package as herein described, which may be effected by conventional vacuum "skin-­packaging" apparatus.
