摘要： There is provided a new polysilazane product from a specific precursor. Desired molecular weight of the polysilazane can be obtained by selecting proper molar ratio of R₁SiHX₂ and R₂R₃SiX₂ as raw materials. The polysilazane is stable during storage without gelation. The polymerization of the precursor can be carried out without gelation even at a high temperature and hence can be completed in a short time. The polysilazane can be made into ceramics fiber by spinning from a solution and subsequent firing.

摘要： The invention is to provide liquid crystalline compounds having a negative and extremely large dielectric anisotropy value and a small optical anisotropy value at the same time; liquid crystal compositions comprising the compound; and liquid crystal display devices fabricated by using the liquid crystal composition; the liquid crystalline compounds have 2,3-dihalogenophenylene moiety and are expressed by formula (1) wherein Ra and Rb each independently represents a linear or branched alkyl having 1 to 10 carbon, any methylene in the alkyl may be replaced by -O-, -S-, -CH=CH-, or -C≡C-, but -O- is not successive, and any hydrogen in the alkyl may be replaced by halogen; rings A 1 to A 4 each independently represents trans-1,4-cyclohexylene, cyclohexene-1,4-diyl, pyridine-1,4-diyl, pyrimidine-2,5-diyl, or 1,4-phenylene, wherein at least one hydrogen in these rings may be replaced by halogen, and any nonadjacent methylene in cyclohexane ring may be replaced by -O-; Y 1 and Y 2 each independently represents F or Cl; Z 1 , Z 2 and Z 3 each independently represents a single bond, -CH 2 CH 2 -, -(CH 2 ) 4 -, -COO-, -OCO-, -CH 2 O-, -OCH 2 -, -CF 2 O-, or -OCF 2 -; and l, m and n each independently is 0, 1 or 2, and the sum of l + m + n is 3 and less.

摘要： There is provided an electrically and chemically stable liquid crystalline compound which exhibits a significantly large value of De and a high voltage holding ratio. The compound is a phenyldioxane derivative represented by formula (1):
wherein R represents a C1-C20 alkyl group; each of n1 and n2 represents 0 or 1; each of Q 1 through Q 6 represents a hydrogen atom, a fluorine atom, or a chlorine atom, provided that Q 3 is a fluorine atom or a chlorine atom when n2 is 0, and that at least one of Q 1 and Q 3 is a fluorine atom or a chlorine atom when n2 is 1; each of Za and Zb represents a single bond, -COO-, or -CF 2 O-; Zc represents a single bond or -CH 2 CH 2 -; Y represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, or a C1-C5 halogenated alkyl group in which one or more non-adjacent methylene groups may be replaced by oxygen atoms or sulfur atoms; and each of the elements that constitute the compound may comprise isotopes of the element. The compound also exhibits excellent compatibility with previously known liquid crystalline compounds, and is advantageously used for low voltage driving of liquid crystal displays for TFTs. There are also provided liquid crystal compositions comprising the compound, as well as liquid crystal display elements constructed of the compositions.
