    • An automotive vehicle has arranged therein a vehicle seat and is equipped with an occupant detection system for detecting whether an occupant is present on the vehicle seat (400). The occupant detection system includes a first antenna electrode (200) arranged in the seat and a sensing circuit associated with the seat. The sensing circuit comprises an oscillation circuit (150) connected to the first antenna electrode (200) for applying to the first antenna electrode a first oscillating signal and a current detection circuit (100) also connected to the first antenna electrode for determining a first current (120) flowing in the first antenna electrode in response to the first oscillating signal being applied. The first current indicates whether an occupant is present on the vehicle seat. The vehicle is further equipped with an appliance including an appliance control device (600) arranged in the vehicle compartment at a location where it can be operated by an occupant of the seat. The occupant detection system is configured for detecting whether the occupant attempts to interact with the appliance control device. In particular, the occupant detection system includes a second antenna electrode (260) arranged together with the appliance control device (600). An oscillator (160) is operatively connected to the second antenna electrode (260) for applying a second oscillating signal to the second antenna electrode and the current detection circuit is configured for determining a second current flowing in the first antenna electrode in response to the second oscillating signal being applied to the second antenna electrode. The second current thus indicates whether an occupant of the vehicle seat has a part of their body proximate to the appliance control device.

    • A pressure-responsive touchpad is provided with a touch-sensitive area, wherein the position of an actuator exerting a compressive force on the touch-sensitive area can be detected. The touchpad comprises a first sheet member and a second sheet member arranged at a certain distance from each other by a spacer, the spacer delimiting the touch-sensitive area, a first resistive electrode arranged in the touch-sensitive area on the first sheet member and a second resistive electrode arranged in the touch-sensitive area on the second sheet member in facing relationship with the first resistive electrode, in such a way that, in response to the compressive force acting on the touch-sensitive area, the first and second sheet members are pressed together whereby a contact area is formed and an electrical contact is established in the contact area between the at least first and second resistive electrodes. The touchpad comprises at least one light source and/or reflective element arranged underneath the first and second sheet members with respect to the direction of the compressive force. The first and second resistive electrodes are substantially intransparent for light coming from the at least one light source and/or reflective element, and the first and second electrodes, respectively, have at least one opening associated with the at least one light source and/or reflective element for allowing light to pass from the at least one light source and/or reflective element through the touch-sensitive area.

    • A testing apparatus for testing a pressure sensing mat comprises a support plate for arranging thereon a pressure sensing mat to be tested, a pressure source and a pressure chamber, fluidly connected to the pressure source for generating pressure in the pressure chamber. The pressure chamber is partially delimited by a substantially fluid-tight flexible membrane operationally arranged in facing relationship to the support plate. In operation, the flexible membrane transmits pressure generated in the pressure chamber onto the pressure sensing mat when the pressure sensing mat is arranged on the support plate. The apparatus further comprises a diagnostic circuit connectable to the pressure sensing mat for measuring an electrical response of the pressure sensing mat to the pressure transmitted thereon by the membrane.
