    • A diverter valve, comprising a housing (201) having inlets, a first outlet, and a second outlet. The inlets are connected to hot and cold water supplies, and mixing of the hot and cold water occurs both inside the housing (201) and inside a mixing chamber external to the valve. The first outlet is connected to a spout, and the second outlet is connected to a spray unit. A valve element (200) is mounted in the housing, movable between a closed position and an open position with respect to the first outlet. A piston means is provided, comprising a first piston (214) at the bottom end of the valve element, and a second smaller piston (215) at the top end of the valve. The piston means is responsive to pressure differential between the second outlet and the inlet for movement to a first and second position. When a lower pressure exists at said second outlet, said piston means moves to said second position, closing off the first outlet. The valve further comprises a flow regulator (216) adapted to regulate the flow through the second outlet. Fluid is directed into the flow regulator (216) by means of channels (228) running through the bottom piston. The flow regulator allows pressure to build up inside the valve, providing an increased closure force on the second outlet when the first outlet is open. An inverted rubber cup washer (202) prevents fluid leakage from the second exit by any other route than through the flow regulator (216). Build up of water inside this rubber cup washer (202) pushes it against the housing (201), providing an antiknocking mechanism. The diverter valve may be included in a tap assembly along with a separate isolated channel for filtered water.

    • The invention comprises a rotary valve (1) having first and second inlet/outlet flow passages (3a,3b), as well as one or more (preferably between 6 and 8) flow ports (C-J). The valve has a plurality of positions simultaneously interconnecting the first and second flow passage (3a,3b) to selected flow ports (C-J). In a preferred embodiment, the valve has a housing (2) and the flow ports (C-J) are disposed on outer peripheral walls of the housing (2). The valve may further include an internal rotary plug (4) that is rotatable about a longitudinal axis to move between the positions, and containing openings (13a,13b) to connect the flow passages (3a,3b) to the flow ports (C-J). The plug may be divided into two chambers (4a,4b) in the valve which may or may not be moved independently of each other. The valve may further include a movable seal (14) between the housing (2) and the internal plug member (4) which is retractable to permit freer movement of the plug (4).
