    • An image recording apparatus according to the present invention has a photosensitive drum 13, a pre-transfer roller 12, and a fixing roller 58. The photosensitive drum 13, the pre-transfer roller 12 and the fixing roller 58 are generally rotated at an equal peripheral speed. Particularly, the peripheral speed of the photosensitive drum 13 and the peripheral speed of the fixing roller 58 are equal to each other, whereby there is no problem that an image transferred to a rolled-paper sheet 4 from the photosensitive drum 13 extends due to the leading end of the rolled-paper sheet 4 is pulled after reaching the fixing roller 58.
      On the other hand, after the leading end of the rolled-paper sheet 4 reaches the fixing roller 58, the peripheral speed of the pre-transfer roller 12 is so controlled as to be lower than the peripheral speed of the photosensitive drum 13 during a predetermined time period. Suitable tension can be applied to the rolled-paper sheet 4 leading to the fixing roller 58 from the pre-transfer roller 12 by such control as to decrease the peripheral speed of the pre-transfer roller 12. The rolled-paper sheet 4 is not made slack and is not jammed at the time of conveyance if suitable tension is applied thereto.

    • An image forming apparatus arranged so that the leading end of a sheet can be exactly stopped in a nip position of registration rollers (39), and an image transferred to the sheet is not shifted. A locking device (150) is provided in relation to the registration rollers (39) provided in a bypass conveying path (D4). When the leading end of a cut sheet is inserted into the bypass conveying path (D4) and is fed to the registration rollers (39), the registration rollers (39) are brought into a state where it cannot be rotated by the locking device (150). Therefore, the leading end of the cut sheet fed is reliably stopped in the nip position of the registration rollers (39), and cannot enter the bypass conveying path (D4) beyond the position. The conveyance of the cut sheet is thereafter resumed by the registration rollers (39), whereby the sheet is subjected to so-called secondary sheet feeding to an image forming section. At the same time, the locking device (150) is turned off, whereby a load by the locking device (150) is not applied to the registration rollers (39) so that the registration rollers (39) are freely rotated smoothly. When the trailing end of the cut sheet separates from the registration rollers (39), therefore, the cut sheet is not vibrated.
