摘要： An approach is provided for transmitting assistance location information to a plurality of telemetry devices over a two-way wireless network (e.g., paging system). A location server, within a Network Operations Center (NOC), generates the assistance location information, such as Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS) data, from a location reference network within the wireless network. A messaging server broadcasts the assistance location information to the plurality of telemetry devices over the wireless network. The telemetry devices are configured to determine respective locations of the telemetry devices independently from the location reference network when out of coverage of the wireless network.

摘要： An approach for processing a call over a telecommunications system is disclosed. A call processor (e.g., a Service Control Point (SCP)) communicates with a switch (101) to provide an alternative route for a call, received by the switch (101), that is determined to be a local portability number (LNP). A database coupled to the call processor stores the alternative routes associated with the LNP call; at least one of the alternative routes specifies a route that bypasses a local exchange network (113) capable of terminating the call, whereby local access charges are avoided.

摘要： System and method for providing applets to remote devices in a communications network. A preferred embodiment includes a host device, which is the device from which the applet will be transferred, and a target device, which is the device to which the applet will be transferred. In one embodiment, the host device autonomously determines that an applet is to be pushed to the target device. The host device then determines the address of the target device and transmits the applet to the target device. Instructions and commands may be sent to the target device form the host, and the target device may transmit results to the host device. In another embodiment, the target device is customer premise equipment and/or a user device that requests an applet from the host device. The target device requests applets, for example, to perform service parameter verification, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, or the like.

摘要： System and method for providing a layer 2 switch (118) in the access network that switches based upon one or more carrier tags identifying customer traffic. Customer traffic conforming to any variety of different layer 1 or layer 2 protocols may be encapsulated and identified according to carrier tag values. The layer 2 switch (118) may determine how to handle the traffic by interpreting and manipulating the carrier tag values. The layer 2 switch may be capable of switching TDM input traffic to either TDM or packet output traffic, and switching packetized input traffic to either TDM or packet output traffic. Handling classification values may also be processed by the layer 2 switch to affect prioritization of handling of encapsulated traffic.

A subscriber submits a request for directory information to the communication system according to a first communication mode. The directory information from the selected directory is retrieved and forwarded to the subscriber according to a second communication mode.
