    • The invention relates to a multistep gear mechanism of planetary design, in particular for a motor vehicle, having a housing (1), in which eight rotatable shafts and four planetary sets (4, 5, 6, 7) are accommodated, and at least six selector elements which are formed by brakes (8, 9, 10; 8, 9) and clutches (11, 12, 13; 11, 12, 22; 11, 12, 25; 11, 12, 13, 28; 11, 12, 22, 28; 11, 12, 25, 28) and by means of the targeted actuation of which different transmission ratios can be produced between a drive shaft (2; 20) and an output shaft (3; 21), wherein a web of a first planetary set (4) is connected to a third shaft (14) which can be arrested via a first brake (8) on the housing (1) and, furthermore, firstly can be connected releasably by means of a first clutch (11) to a fourth shaft (15; 24) which is coupled to a web of a second planetary set (5), and secondly can be connected via a second clutch (12) to the drive shaft (2; 20), wherein an internal gear of a third planetary set (6) is coupled to a fifth shaft (16) which can be arrested via a second brake (9) on the housing (1), wherein the drive shaft (2; 20) is additionally coupled to a sun gear of the second planetary set (5) and an internal gear of the second planetary set (5) is connected to a sixth shaft (17; 27), and wherein the second planetary set (5) is configured as a positive planetary set.
