    • An ink jet printer (1) is provided with an ink jet head (2), an applying device (206, 220), a first storage (202), an inputting device (210), and a second storage (204). The ink jet head (2) comprises a nozzle (8) that discharges an ink droplet toward a print medium, and an actuator (20) that makes the nozzle (8) discharge the ink droplet when a pulse signal is applied to the actuator (20). The applying device (206, 220) is capable of applying at least two kinds of pulse signals to the actuator (20). The pulse width of each kind of pulse signal mutually differs. The first storage (202) stores at least two kinds of base pulse widths. Each kind of base pulse width corresponds with a different kind of pulse signal. Each kind of base pulse width mutually differs. The inputting device (210) inputs a predetermined value. The second storage (204) stores the predetermined value input by the inputting device (210). The applying device (206, 220) determines a pulse width of each kind of pulse signal by multiplying the corresponding base pulse width stored in the first storage (202) by the predetermined value stored in the second storage (204).

    • An ink jet printer (101) is provided with a passage unit (9), an actuator (21), and a pulse applying device (52). The passage unit (9) comprises a nozzle (108), a pressure chamber (110), and an ink passage (132) located between the nozzle (108) and the pressure chamber (110). The actuator (21) faces the pressure chamber (110) and comprises a first electrode (135), a second electrode (134) to which a reference potential can be applied, and a piezoelectric element (141) located between the first electrode (135) and the second electrode (134). The pulse applying device (52) is capable of applying a first voltage pulse to the first electrode (135) such that the nozzle discharges an ink droplet and a second voltage pulse to the first electrode (135) such that the nozzle (108) does not discharge the ink droplet. A voltage change on a leading edge and/or a trailing edge of the second voltage pulse is greater than a voltage change on a leading edge and/or a trailing edge of the first voltage pulse.

A period from the first change to the second change is 2/3 x AL or below, or within a range between (2s - 1/2) x AL and (2s + 2/3) x AL. s is a positive integer. Discharging speed of ink discharged from the nozzle (8) is substantially maximum if the period from the first change to the second change is set to AL.

    • An aspect of the invention provides an inkjet printer including: an inkjet head and a controller. The inkjet head moves relative to a recording medium to perform printing. The inkjet head includes, a flow path unit (4) including plural pressure chambers (10) respectively communicating with plural ink ejection ports (8) that ejects ink droplets toward the recording medium, and a piezoelectric actuator (21) configured to take a first state and a second state. The controller supplies a drive pulse signal to the piezoelectric actuator in order to repeat an operation in which the piezoelectric actuator transits from the first state to the second state and returns to the first state, for enabling the corresponding ink ejection port to eject a plurality of ink droplets. The controller supplies the drive pulse signal so that timings of the transition and the return satisfy some relationships.
