摘要： Methods for inhibiting proliferation of a cell, particularly a cancer cell are provided. The method comprises increasing intracellular levels of one or more wild-type ras proteins in the cell. In one aspect, the method comprises introducing and expressing a nucleic molecule that encodes a wild-type ras protein in the cell. In another aspect, intracellular levels of one more ras proteins are increased by introducing one or more wild-type ras proteins into the cell. The present invention also relates to the therapeutic use of wild-type ras proteins or nucleic acids that encode one or more wild-type ras proteins in the treatment of tumors or cancer, or prophylactically to prevent formation of tumors or cancer. Methods of characterizing or evaluating cancer in a humans or other mammals are provided. In one embodiment, the method comprises assaying for a loss of function mutation in one or more endogenous ras alleles in the genome of tumor cells obtained from the subject. In another embodiment, the method comprises assaying for a loss of function mutation in one or more endogenous ras alleles and an activating mutation in one or more ras alleles in tumor cells obtained from the subject.

摘要： A pulsed electric field treatment device for the sterilization and preservation of pumpable food products having at least two electrodes (201, 203) and an insulator (202) and particularly suited for the inactivation of vegetative and bacterial spore micro-organisms. Each electrode includes an electrode flow chamber (207, 208) for making electrical contact with the pumpable food product and for allowing the pumpable food product to flow through the treatment devices. The insulator (202) is situated between the electrodes (201, 203) and includes an insulator flow chamber (206) positioned between the electrode flow chambers (207, 208) and provides for the flow of pumpable food product from one electrode flow chamber to the other. A high voltage pulse generator (107) applies a high voltage signal of variable voltage, frequency and pulse duration to the electrodes. The electrode and insulator flow chambers may employ a variety of sectional and cross-sectional geometries including tubular, cylindrical, rectangular, elliptical and non-uniform design.

摘要： Endogenous protein hormones, fragments thereof including epitopes, and synthetic peptides mimicking epitope regions of hormones such as human chorionic gonadotropin can be conjugated to a foreign carrier or otherwise modified so as to produce antibodies in humans against the endogenous protein hormone. Synthetic analogs to the 38 to 57 sequence of the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin have been found which upon conjugation to a suitable foreign carrier can be employed to raise a high level of antibodies to human chorionic gonadotropin with a significant decrease in antibodies reactive to human pituitary luteinizing hormones. Upon conjugation to a foreign carrier such analogs may be administered to humans to treat hormone-associated carcinomas and for purposes of contraception.

The method comprises supplying an organic phase fluid an organic phase fluid, an aqueous phase fluid, an amphiphile, and a plurality of hydrophobic nanospecies to a nozzle. An electric field is generated proximate the nozzle such that the fluid exiting the nozzle forms a cone jet that disperses into a plurality of droplets.
